Maui in November?

Anybody else heading that way? Dorothy and I will be in Kihei from Nov. 6 to 25, and renting bikes for at least a week (maybe longer if some TSers show up). Looking forward to the classic West Maui loop and of course the Haleakala grind!

Re: Yellow and Black Cipollini Road Bike, Ridden once

I'm guessing that with a 175mm crank the frame size is 58 or 60. Frame size is the one missing piece of info... and could you post a nice pic or 3 so we can at least salivate?

So you always wanted a bike shed...

Outgrew ours as a result of the N+1 formula (plus it was a garden shed, kayak equipment storage, garden furniture, you name it). Even with all that there was still space for hanging eight bikes. Selling the kit for a fraction of the cost of the cedar siding; asking price is basically an attempt to r...

Re: 2015 Ambriss Clermont Memorial Ride - Sunday, September

Just registered for the Clermont Memorial Ride. Looked for Tripleshot team, didn't see one, came close to creating one (and automatically becoming team captain), wussed out and registered as an individual. OK, someone with more moxie create the team (one click is all it takes). See you at Russ Hay's!

Interested - if you can have it in June when I'm fully recovered from the post-crash groin pull [let the witty remarks begin] and I'm starting to get some conditioning back...

Re: Thanks to the docs

Thanks, Lister - and to the rest of you for your good thoughts on this post and privately. Coming up to the one week anniversary I am gingerly - and slowly - riding to work, feeling every crack, ripple and pebble. It's the left hip that really took the hit and is going to take some time to heal. Fin...

Re: Thanks to the docs

That's correct, Rolf. I was at the back on the right, watching the left rolling crew pedal away and reacted too hastily. While the fault was entirely my own, I will say that calling "last wheel" is a fine and courteous practice. I am very grateful that it happened "in my own space&quo...

Thanks to the docs

Just when I was thinking, "I love the Friday ride - rolling pacelines rule" I got sloppy on Cad Bay Rd. and jumped left just a little too soon and a little too fast. Touched wheels with the unsuspecting and completely blameless woman in front and then had a new thought: "oh crap - I c...

Tech stuff: SRAM shifter overhaul

So one night I was just sitting, staring into the guts of a busted shifter, when I noticed that the far (unused) side of the internal drive cog appeared to have steps machined into it. But why would SRAM do that? Dismantling the unit led to a discovery that I have not seen mentioned anywhere on the ...

Re: Restoring/Upgrading old and current kit

...I guess that's what you call consumer research. Message received, loud and clear! Some comments in response: needless to say, I was not thinking of our sponsors and did not intend a disservice when I proposed this. It just wasn't on my radar, for several reasons: First, we're talking about shorts...

Restoring/Upgrading old and current kit

I've been in touch recently with Will Chung, customer service rep with Champion Systems re getting replacement chamois pads. We have agreed that since nobody is supplying replacement pads, this either represents an enormous untapped market, or - there is no market? That's where you come in. Here's t...

Vas iss all zis liddl GIRLYMAN stuff vis 5 or 10 observatories. Ven iss sumbody going to do ze EVEREST challenge? OK, enough SNL Arnold. if the observatory climb is 130 metres, then to Everest it (8848m) would require 68 repeats. Might as well make it 70 to account for any rounding errors... Who's in?

Re: Bridging the gap to As

Terrific advice here, and much appreciated. Given its general interest potential, it should probably be in the Tripleshot cycling part of the forum - this is more than just "general banter." I've daydreamed a few times about "running with the big dogs", and this thread may cause ...

Re: No drop Sunday ride

+1 to Rolf's observations about a group split. I found myself in the lead group after the involuntary split on Wallace Drive and wondered aloud whether we were at a designated sprint point as we were hitting 45k+ at various times. Very nice team time trial, but good luck to anyone trying to catch us...

Re: Personal Injury Insurance for self-employed people

Hi Paula - Are you a member of a profession or a trade association? Or is the work you do related closely enough to a profession or trade that you can join an association? Often these organizations can get the best deals on insurance of all types for their members. And (check with Canada Revenue or ...

Goldstream Heights post-mortem

I should have known it would be a bit of a challenge when Barton said he was foregoing this ride since he'll be in the Whistler Gran Fondo (with Forte!) the following weekend. 5 of us set off from St. Arbucks chapel Sunday morning near Mayfair - 2 strong male riders (Stephane, Dylan), 2 strong femal...

Re: Oversea haute route

I've been looking at the Haute Route for al couple of years now and just, well, dreaming about it. My one concern is doing it in the August heat - I've toyed with the idea of replicating the route in June or September. Comments? Anyone want to try a private, unoffical version? In any event I want in...
