The CrossFondo course guy (me), is looking for folks interested in managing and supporting a small team of marshals for a 3-4 km sector of the course. Want a reminder of what the day is like? (or just groove with it once a week like i do .)
Choose a sector (early or late in the course, familiar or new to you) 3-4 km
Finalize the number of marshals needed in your sector (5-10)
Ask the volunteer coordinator for help recruiting
Recruit from friends and acquaintances
Help mark the course the day before or morning before
Patrol the sector by bike to support the marshals and check route marking (flags and arrows)
Receive delivery of hot calzones from Bicycle Pizza for marshals
Deliver hot calzones to marshals
Rotate the marshals, if feasible, to keep it interesting
Liaise with owners
Liaise with traffic controllers
Have marshals pick up all the markings and garbage after the sweep riders passes by
Deliver markings back to start finish, and enjoy hearing adventure stories, lunch and a beverage
Hours of commitment vary depending whether the sector is early or late in the course. Sector 1 and 10 will be the same. Maybe 2 and 9. Sector 3 is probably 8:00-11:00, the latter sectors start later, but last longer as the riders string out. Sector 8 probably 10:00 to 1:00.
You won't be left hanging though; anyone arriving at the short course turn-off (approx 10 km) after 2 hrs will be sent the short route.
There will be a short zoom meeting shortly with other captains, who know more about this that i do.
Thanks Ron! I'm sending out an email today with a zoom meeting link Thursday at 8:00, and the list of sectors and captains. We still need about three more captains, if anyone knows a club member who could help.
Mtg agenda:
Check captains can open the plotaroute private map
Review the captains tasks
Supports for captains: flags, arrow signs, trail clearing, vests, stop go paddles, food for marshals, etc
Schedule final flag check on the sector Saturday
Cut off times and support for stragglers
Separately, review any specifics to each sector, such as gates, animals, owner preferences.
