Tripleshot Rides for Quentin - Saturday, December 4
Posted: Tue Nov 23, 2021 11:03 pm
Two days after Christmas last year, former Tripleshotter Quentin Liedtke died from an incurable and aggressive brain tumour. He left behind his wife, Sarah, and two daughters aged 8 and 1. The youngest was born just three weeks before Quentin’s diagnosis in August 2019.
As this young family approaches their first Christmas without their father and husband, a neighbour and good friend has put together a fundraising challenge on Saturday, December 4. Mike Sanborn will row 100.3 km on an indoor rowing machine to raise funds for the Lumara Grief and Bereavement Care Society. The Society runs Camp Kerry, which provides a unique bereavement camp and counselling for children and families who have suffered loss.
Quentin rode with Tripleshot consistently between 2010 and about 2016, but he still remained part of our community in recent years. So when Mike approached us about getting involved, we jumped at the chance.
The Club will host two 100.3 km rides on the morning of Saturday, December 4 (routes below updated Nov. 29).
One on the ROAD (0730 start):
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1750161?units=km
https://www.strava.com/routes/2900483795446892024
And one on the TRAILS (0630 start):
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1750234?units=km
https://www.strava.com/routes/2900482527714902520
Both routes start at Cook St. Village and finish around 11:30-12:00 at a cross-fit gym on Ellery in Esquimalt where there should be about 60 people supporting Mike and sweating on ergs. At Mike's suggestion, both rides will go past Quentin's house in Esquimalt just before finishing and ring bells so his wife and girls can hopefully hear the community supporting them. After a quick look-in at the gym, some riders may retire to nearby Driftwood Brewing for pints and dumplings.
You can learn more about Quentin, about Mike’s campaign (e.g. why “100.3” is significant), and how to make a donation any time at his website https://100kmforq.com/. Mike also put together this very moving video about his campaign: https://youtu.be/8F29uMD_7pY
Rides are up on Spond now. Please join us on the day if you can, or consider making a donation in any event. Mike’s original goal was $10,000, but he’s now past $35,000 and shooting for $50,000 (enough to send 100 kids to Camp Kerry.) Donations can be dedicated to Quentin and attributed to Tripleshot using the easy online payment platform at the campaign link above. Tax receipts are generated and sent to you moments after donating.
