Victoria’s own Jay Lamoureux is going to Tokyo with the Canadian track cycling team and we invite you to send him off in style on Saturday, June 26 at the Westshore Velodrome!

It takes a village to support an Olympic athlete and this fundraising event will give you an opportunity to meet Jay, support him and get a ride in if you want!

Celebrity route curators are working on routes for road, gravel and mountain bike in exchange for a donation. All rides will finish with an optional lap of the velodrome (á la Roubaix!) and an opportunity to meet Jay and sign a banner of congrats!

More info coming, but save the date in the meantime and watch this space. Learn more about Jay here: olympic.ca/team-canada/jay-lamoureux

Thanks, Shawn! Here are some more details, so they're handy.

When the Tripleshot Youth program started 11 years ago, Jay Lamoureux was one of its first riders. And now he's going to the Tokyo Olympic Games with Canada’s track cycling team!!! We invite you to help send him off this Saturday, June 26 at the Westshore Velodrome (Juan de Fuca Recreation Complex) between 11am -3:30pm.

Come and meet your fellow Tripleshot member, Jay, and sign a banner that will travel with him to Tokyo! On your way to the event, we invite you to choose one of the many road, gravel and mountain bike rides specially curated by celebrity cyclists, each finishing with an optional Paris-Robaix style lap of the velodrome! Pull some friends together and pick a ride! Or you can simply ride out to meet Jay if you prefer (parking will be available to those who need to drive). And if you can't do either, a donation to the fundraiser would be most welcome; you'll still get the routes so that you can ride when you have time! Funds raised will help Jay to defray the mammoth costs of training for and getting to the Olympics.

Following BC Government regulations, the event is limited to having a maximum of 50 people on site at any given time and registration is required to attend; when you register, you must pick a time slot to visit the velodrome and must also fill out a quick Covid-19 declaration form at the same time (if you are planning to ride with friends, make sure you agree to picking the same time slot). The Jay Day cycling routes have been thoughtfully curated for you and Jay by past Olympians and local cycling heroes. There is no charge for the ride you select, however in order to get this package of routes, riders are asked to make a donation to Jay's fundraising campaign to offset the costs of his Olympic journey. Deadline for route registration is Thursday, June 24 at midnight.

“It was just a few years ago that many Tripleshot members could outpace Jay on a morning ride. Those days, I’m afraid, are over,” said Martin Farnham, Tripleshot Cycling Club President. “Tripleshot is proud of all its youth team grads. Jay is an example of where dedication, teamwork, and hard work can lead. We’ll all be cheering for him on Jay Day and during the Tokyo Games.”

Step 1: register for Jay Day! Register here* (once you receive confirmation, you will see a 'donate' button)
Step 2: send proof of donation to jdayvelo@gmail.com by Thursday, June 24 at midnight, and your route package will be sent to you!
If you can't make the event but would like to make a donation to Jay’s Olympic preparation you can do so here **

It takes a village to raise an Olympic athlete, and that village includes everyone who has helped sweep an apron, mark a course, run race registration, loan or fix a bike, plan a weight workout, run a team, provide financial support and cheer from the sidelines. It also includes every single Tripleshot member since 2010, when we founded the Youth Team. You have supported Jay through your membership fees and, in many cases, through your donations and volunteer efforts. Please come share in the celebration of Jay’s phenomenal accomplishment between 11am and 3:30pm on June 26.

Reminder to register for Jay Day, The Shower Tent (tm)- and a Sandwich!

Thanks to long-time Bastion Square GP volunteer, Kane Straith, we have sponsorship to offer a sandwich to fans who register for a visit with Jay.

Saturday 11am-3:30pm, choose a 30 minute window to come see Jay and sign the banner he will take to Tokyo.

We need to have the registration system to show VIHA we're spreading folks out. But if you're late or early, or just unexpectedly get free, if there are less than 40 on site, we will let you in. If there are already 40 on site, you may need to wait until the next 30 minute slot starts when we shoo out the previous group (no mingling groups please.)

Besides the sandwiches, Thrifty's is sponsoring drinks, there will be ice water, and the best part, after a sweaty ride, a shower tent to remind you of days in the sprinkler.
