BC Cycling Coalition Safe Passing Law Campaign

Tripleshot cyclists,
You may be aware of the BC Cycling Coalition's drive to raise funds in order to campaign for a safe passing law in BC. As the coalition's blog notes, "a bicycle on a road is one of the cheapest, greenest, healthiest, most efficient, and most enjoyable modes of transportation on the planet." Unfortunately it is also one of the most vulnerable, with the reality in BC being that about four times a day a person on a bike will be injured in a car crash. Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec have safe passing laws on their books, typically requiring a motor vehicle to pass at a distance of at least between 1 - 1.5 metres. The BC Cycling Coalition is campaigning to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to establish a minimum passing distance of 1.5 metres on all roadways and highways in BC.
Tripleshot Executive thought that this was something worth supporting. On behalf of the club it was decided to both join the BC Cycling Coalition as an organization member, and support the safe passing law directly. Membership for an organization our size cost us $125 on top of which we donated $875 to the safe passing campaign. Our donation was greatly appreciated by the BC Cycling Coalition, they responded to our generosity with this email:
Dear Board & Staff of the Tripleshot Cycling Club,On behalf of the Board of the BC Cycling Coalition, our members and supporters, thank you for your very generous donation today. You helped us get over the top! If you would like any more information BCCC or this campaign, please let me know. I would be happy to present to you and your members. Best regards,Colin Stein
Executive Director
BC Cycling Coalition
So, thank you to all our members who have shown their commitment and registered as club members, despite these challenging times. We think a part of your annual membership fees are going to a worthy cause that may potentially benefit all of us.
Should you feel that this is something that is important to you, we encourage you to consider giving a personal contribution.
Here are a couple of links to their campaign and general website:

As the vaccine roleout continues, we can hope that we can return to more normal group rides and even a coffee at the end! Please take care and stay safe, both on the road and off.
The Executive (the Suits).
