FEB CX Weekly Ride Contest (Solo/Group)

Post by JamesB »

Need a little extra motivation to get out for a ride? Each Sunday in Feb I will post a new route (designed by more talented riders among us). You then have 7 days to ride that route - meant to be of a CX3 level and finished in about 90 to 100 minutesish.

Send your "results" to me to win prizes (awarded after the 4 weeks are up). Each Sunday in Feb I'll post the new route and update a "results" page in the following categories: a/ most attempts at the route; b/ best selfie or photo taken on the route; and c/ best time to complete the route.

Please hit me up if you need more details or to discuss ride options. Please also feel free to nudge your friends to join us ... the intention here is to help more of us get out on the trails -- even if you feel you have to do it solo, know that we're still in this together!

A quick disclaimer here ... this is NOT a TS "sanctioned" event ... we are simply trying to keep active and keep doing what we love by riding our bikes in a C-Friendly manner. So while a 2021 TS membership is NOT required to participate, it is still strongly suggested in a show of support. Have Fun, Be Safe and Happy Trails to all.

Please send your "results" for tracking and to help build momentum for the cause to:

Here's the route for week 1 (Feb 1 to and including Sun Feb 7):

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1333608

Special notes ...
1. bit of a steep road climbing section starting at about 8.4 km (aptly named "Hillwood" Road) and goes for about 1.5 km (to Seamist);
2. BEAUTIFUL look off @ 12.5 km just before Saywood Hill Park;
3. if you extend your paved ride on Brookleigh Road (before turning South (left) of Elk Lake onto the 10 km Trail), you'll bypass a ped-only section of trail (take your left onto Bear Hill Road instead); and
4. between km 24 and 25 (just behind PISE track) be ready for a bit of interesting single track that rises then drops onto Loenholm Rd. ... if you'd rather bypass this, continue to wrap around the PISE track and exit to Glyn Rd, then Right onto Wilkinson Rd and Left onto Loenholm to rejoin route.
5. Remember to SMILE cause we live in Paradise and get to ride our Bikes!!

Hit me up for any further details anytime at:
TSCXC19SOLOGROUP@GMAIL.COM

Results and updates will be posted first on Spond and second, with time, maybe here also!

Course #2 (Claire's RRU CX 34 km) has been extended for a full second week (until end of Sunday, Feb 21)

Course #3 will be issued on Sunday night, but until then, as conditions will allow, points remain available on Course #2. In case you need it, here's the route:

plotaroute.com/route/1426090?units=km
and an amazing video summary by Rolf of the route (he rode it just a day before we got the snow!).
vimeo.com/rolfwarburton/cxsoloweeklychallengeweek2

Finally, YES, I can confirm the rumours ...
Starting this coming Sunday, while all riding and points remain unchanged, each rider will be "drafted" to one of two "virtual teams". As such, while prizes will still be awarded at the end of course #4 to individual riders, a TROPHY will be awarded to the "virtual team" that collectively scores the highest points (very few are for "speed"). If required, the TROPHY will be awarded virtually until such time (hopefully by the Christmas Party) that it can be awarded and "hoisted" in person!!

We're ALL in this TOGETHER ... Even, and perhaps especially, when we're riding apart!!

TS CX Route #3 (Ron's Adventure) 36+ km now released for rides Feb 22 to and including Feb 28

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1431435?units=km

Anticipate a bit of mushy soil and some mud between km markers 18.5 to about 21 ... also note, a drier but slightly longer bypass is offered.

Beautiful trails and a great 7-day forecast ahead!
Thanks again Claire for 2 fantastic courses.

FINAL CX COURSE FOR FEB 4 WEEK CHALLENGE - SOLO/GROUP
Alrightee then ... First, a HUGE Thank You to Ron for keeping our momentum going with CX#3 - an amazing course with lots of challenges and fun.

So now, yes, all good things must come to an end! So what's say we go out with a BLAST!? Not one, but TWO COURSES for extra bonus points - Oh Yeah!

SHORT (34K)
plotaroute.com/route/1440523?units=km
strava.com/routes/2801238652889623810

LONG (47K)
plotaroute.com/route/1440508?units=km
strava.com/routes/2801239802689057026

Rolf's route notes:

Filling in some blanks and avoiding overlap with Claire's and Ron's excellent routes means this loop foregoes a bit of flow for the sake of (hopefully) some new views and places to ride your bike. The SHORT route is 34K and quite urban. The LONG option is 47K and tacks on a classic Thetis CX lap with plenty of tasty forested singletrack.

Strava course maps don't allow annotations. If you're going to use them, please at least view the warnings on the Plot-a-Route version. There are a few sketchy road crossings that will be hairy during rush hour (particularly by the Saanich Police station at Blanshard and the Pat Bay Highway.)

As always, please be SAFE and make careful decisions. Have FUN and looking forward to getting and reading your updates here in Spond or to the email address: TSCXC19SOLOGROUP@GMAIL.COM

Weather forecast keeps getting better and better!

Please also remember to update our collective photo album with your AWESOME pictures (worth mucho points) ...
The first link below is how to "view" what we have so far. The second link (further below) is for uploading your pics to the album - Thx.

tripleshotcyclingphotos.smugmug.com/Events/2021/CX-Solo-Weekly-Ride-Challenge

Viewing password (like everything on the TS Photos site) is 'coffee'. There is an upload button at the top of the gallery which lets anyone upload their photos or video. Anyone can also use the following link which goes direct to the upload page:

tripleshotcyclingphotos.smugmug.com/upload/GGs4mD/CXsoloridechallenge

Please upload direct to the gallery and label each pic with the caption you want to represent it. Also, please save each pic with your name in the filename.

Final reminder, enter the course at your convenient start/finish point, but please ride in the direction indicated by the plotaroute files.

Looks groovy. Thanks, Rolf! (Although I'm cursing you just a little for all the little convolutions that'll likely force me to carry a paper route summary!)
