What: Bike ride from Gordon Head Rec Centre down Shelbourne
When: April 11th @ 11am
Why: To endorse bike lanes all the way down Shelbourne
Why #2: The councillors are treating this ride like a vote. If lots of people show up, there is a high likelihood of action.

Saanich Planning is examining how to make the Shelbourne corridor more bicycle, pedestrian and transit friendly. On Sunday April 11, Saanich in cooperation with some community groups, is sponsoring a "planning" event at Shelbourne Plaza (Shelbourne at Cedar Hill X Road). To allow people to arrive at this event by bicycle and to make a statement in support of bike lanes along Shelbourne, there will be a Police escorted bicycle ride down Shelbourne to this event (From Gordon Head Recreation Centre, down Shelbourne to Cedar Hill X Rd). There will be a police car in front and one in the rear of the riders. A team of Saanich motorcycle police will 'leap-frog' the group, performing road closures as we travel.
This is designed as a family ride. We are encouraging families and schools to participate. For schools, we have two bicycle racks to be awarded to the two schools with the highest per capita participation. Also, a trailer bike will be given via a draw.
Since we are encouraging younger riders, we would very much like experienced bikers in the group ride. Although the ride will also return, we are only looking for the ride to the event. This will be Sunday April 11 at 11:00 am. Being a short distance, the ride will not take very long.
Thanks for considering this.
