Hey, do you believe that everyone has the right to wind in their hair?
Then I have the volunteer gig for you.
I've been a pilot at Cycling without Age for a couple years now.
It's not a huge volunteer commitment but it's a lot of fun and very well appreciated by our passengers, many who are housebound.
Check out the site, watch the video below which captures what this is all about in a few minutes.

Re: Volunteer with Cycling Without Age
Alan - I've always thought this was a great program. Fun, yet truly enlightening (and enlivening) for the passengers. And fun - in a "share the two-wheeled lifestyle with others" kind of way for the cyclist. Plus...bonus exercise!
I'd actually like to talk to you more about this over coffee one day soon. I'd love to hear a little more first-hand.

Hey Alan, I would like to volunteer! You can pick me up in Esquimalt. Should I bring a blanket?

In related news, Fiona Green from the Sidney CWA chapter asked me to pass on the following:
*****
The Sidney-based charity Cycling Without Age Society hosts local cyclist Gordon Litster’s “Paris-Brest-Paris Cycling Adventure”. Thursday, March 12, 2020 7:00-8:30PM Sidney All Care Centre, 2269 Mills Road, Sidney, BC. Advance Tickets $20. All are welcome; suitable for all ages, cyclists and non-cyclists alike.
In this passionate and illustrative talk, Gord Litster shares his incredible experiences of training for, riding and completing the grueling Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) Race, known as the Olympics of Endurance Cycling. Gord is a self-described cyclist who has shifted from maintaining there was “No Fun Factor” in riding a 1219 km route, with over 11,000 metres of climbing in under 3.5 days, to not being able to wait for 2023 to come so he can do it again at 69 years old.
Gord will be joined by Mark Payten, his training buddy and PBP cyclist as well as expert bike technician Gary McCoey. Of particular interest to cyclists of all levels will be Gary’s input on wheels, running tubeless tires and his discussion of the different choices considered regarding bikes, bike transportation, equipment and what to carry in case of on-the-road repairs. The evening will conclude with an opportunity to ask questions, chat with the presenters, view bikes, kits, gear and sample some of the unusual, yet successful, food choices Gord made.
The historical Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) event by the numbers:
1219 Kilometers, the distance of Paris-Brest-Paris ride
81 Hours for Gord to complete 2019 Paris-Brest-Paris course
4 Years between the event, like the Olympics
20 Months to complete four sanctioned qualifying rides to enter PBP event
200/300/400/600 Kilometers, the riding distances of sanctioned qualifying events
70 Countries represented by riders in 2019 PBP event
1891 First year of the Paris-Brest-Paris event
128 Years of PBP history - the oldest and continually run bicycling race in the world
7500 Riders registered for 2019 Paris-Brest-Paris event
11,000 Metres of climbing
Advance Tickets are $20 available from Brenda Houston, brendafayhouston@gmail.com
All proceeds go to support the purchase of the Cycling Without Age Society trishaw-bike. Refreshments available by donation.
