Just over 3 years ago, we booked a private first aid course for TSC members. Since the certification expires after 3 years, it's time for a repeat. I've booked the "Emergency First Aid with CPR" course with Alert First Aid, customized to address the particular situations that we may encounter while cycling, for the coaches who are volunteering to coach the 2020 Women's Clinic, and we have room for some of you! The TSC exec has kindly agreed to cover 50% of the cost so this is a great chance to sign up. Your cost would be $35. What a deal!

The course will take place over two evenings: Feb. 11, 5:30-9:30 pm and Feb. 18, 5:30-9:30 pm.
Your cost: $35 which includes a manual.
Location: Alert First Aid 920 Johnson St Unit A, Victoria

Below is a summary of the course:

Alert Emergency First-Aid with CPR "A" - This fun and interactive 8-hour course trains people how to react and improvise during time priority, life threatening emergencies. This course covers initial assessment, disease prevention, secondary survey, airway obstruction, adult and child CPR. This course also includes recognition and first-aid treatment for head and spine injuries, shock, burns, bleeds, seizures, broken bones, anaphylactic shock, heart attacks and strokes. Participants spend the majority of the course doing hands on first-aid training. By practicing with scenarios students gain confidence and learn to react and improvise in emergency situations. This course meets Adult and Child Licensing Guidelines.

Please let me know if there are certain types of injuries you would like to focus on other than the following:

Extra focus on spinal injuries, when and when not to remove cyclists helmet.

We only have room for 18 people and must have a commitment from you by Feb. 8th. To sign up, please copy/add name/paste in the usual manner.

Thanks for organizing this, Shawn.

Anything we should bring tonight? Cashmoney? Flexible yogawear? Cookies to share? Surgical masks? :D :D

Also: being a health-oriented event, will there still be the customary smoke-breaks?

You're most welcome!

If I remember correctly, we did spend a bit of time in positions suited to stretchy clothing last time 😁

We can pay at the second session. I'll make sure to get those details tonight.

I don't think you need to bring anything special, but you may wish to prep by having a listen to that great Bee Gees hit, "Staying Alive."
