Sunday, Nov. 17 - Early Explore of Mitchell Lake and Hazlitt Creek

Mostly nonsense. Also riding bicycles inappropriate for off road terrain, off road; GIFs

Sunday, Nov. 17 - Early Explore of Mitchell Lake and Hazlitt Creek

Post by Rolf »

Instead of working tonight, I've been playing with maps. (Thanks, Ron.)

Here's an idea for some fun, new stuff on Sunday. I'm only home for part of the weekend, so I'll leave Fort & Richmond at 6 a.m. to do the more boring Goose/Highland/Westoby/Millstream Lake approach in the wet darkness. The light should then come up just as I get thoroughly lost on some new bits of trail, before hopefully having a nice zoom down Corey, SMR, Bellamy etc.

It's early and potentially dumb; so someone else should organize a saner, regular Sunday gravel ride. I'm quite content solo—but do come along if you enjoy exploration, easy pace, and breakfast before 10.

p.s. if anyone has experience along the Mitchell Lake doubletrack and the full Hazlitt Creek trail east of Lone Tree Hill, please share...

Sorry, Dolly! But it's the consequence of having only 20 waking hours at home this weekend.

Not "potentially dumb", dumb!

Unless I text you otherwise, I'll be there at 6. (I know Garth has done the Hazlitt Creek trail, and I recall him saying that it was challenging. Let's do it.)

You guys are all bastards!!!!! New trails when I can't ride...

Somebody else join the ride. Those three should not be left up to their own devices:

Uh-oh, we forgot to tell Ron about the censor monkeys....
Ron, this is a smut-free zone, so when you hear the screeching of flying monkeys, the Wicked Witch of Vic West is about to censor you....

Don't worry, Martin. We’ll work hard to keep the bearded one in line.

Naturally, you take it off first.

I'm in if I can be home by 10!

And no lollygagging on the ride right?

We all enjoy and seek out flow. But this ride may feature the intentional selection of pointless routes. Strictly rational decision-making may end up sacrificed at the altar of exploration.

So if you’re asking about lollygagging, Rob, this may not be the ride for you. :P But you’re always welcome.

Mashby: I’m counting on breakfast by 10 at the latest.

Garth: re JT’s comment, I think your G(arth)PS system has taken you to this stretch of Hazlitt Creek before; but weren’t you on foot?

Rob: personally, I'm more interested these days in new discoveries than blasts from the past. But then again, I'm not training for an epic ride like you. :D

I may join you for this adventure, even though it’s way too early and you guys are all scary.

JT,

You know I’m pretty darn accepting. If I wanted to hammer there’s plenty of options. I like riding with y’all.

I just have a preference for pushing harder and want to express that. (In case its not already painFUNly clear)

Yes, I surely know that, and you'll know too that I also enjoy pushing hard. But when a fella takes the time to scout out and post a new route, with a stated pace and breakfast time, I roll with it.

That said, knowing Rolf, he'll gas it at the start and peter-out at the end. Come out Sunday, Rob, and prove me wrong.

Hey Rolf,
I’ve run and ridden the Hazlett Cr trails. The route you’ve plotted out through that area is 90% doable on a cx bike (there are a few sections that’ll be a hike a bike...but it’s not a cx ride unless you have to carry your bike!).

Looks like a fun route!! 🙂

Alas, I’ve been single-parenting since Thursday with no end in sight, so I’ll have to settle for a ride on the trainer in nowhereland tomorrow. Sorry to be missing this. Have fun!

The perfect route and company, Rolf - with no puddle left unturned. In fact, Jill's still cleaning up ...
