6th Annual Tripleshot Backpack Ride - Friday, Sept. 6

Last year, Tripleshot's main charitable event delivered 1,139 lbs of donations and $1,665 to the Mustard Seed food bank. :o Let's reach even higher for 2019!

Show up for the Friday, September 6 ride wearing a backpack containing non-perishable food or other items for the Mustard Seed food bank. See below for their latest list of preferred donations. We will have a vehicle on hand (thanks Mark Ford!) to collect donations and deliver them to the Mustard Seed. Mark will be present at both the OBHS start (6:00 a.m.) and Shoal Point finish (7:30 a.m.)—it's your call if you want to ride with the weight or not.

Cheques made out to the Mustard Seed Street Church are also accepted, but we cannot accept cash. You may also donate to the Mustard Seed online. (Be sure to enter Tripleshot Cycling in the "Business or Organization Name" field.) Tax receipts are available for financial donations.

As in past years, the Victoria Wheelers are holding their own Mustard Seed event next week, to see if they can match or even exceed the generosity of Tripleshot. Let's show them we're still the most giving Club in town!

Cheers,
Mark F., Heather R., and Rolf

Other welcomed donations:
  • Clean, gently-used clothes, shoes, backpacks and small home appliances to stock our Home Start and Clothing Boutique.
  • (New) bagged and canned pet food, socks, and unopened personal items such as shampoo/conditioner.
Here's some video from last year's TSCX backpack ride.

Hi Rolf;

Given that many (most?) club members don't creep on the Forum as much as much and you (and I) do, I wonder whether it might be worth sending a direct email notice to the entire membership to maximize participation in this event?

I believe it will be featured in The Rivet: due out this week and direct mailed to all Club members.

Hopefully it was mentioned pre-ride yesterday and will be again on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Any other assistance getting the word out would be good...!

It was announced yesterday and will be on upcoming rides. There will also be an email announcement of various September events.

Ciao!

We're only two days away, folks!

Flaunt your largesse this Friday, and show us all how much you can carry and still rocket up Ash.

Or, if your lumbago or your common sense have other ideas, simply drop off your donations with Mark at the meet-up and enjoy your Friday ride with a nice, empty backpack.

If you can't make Friday's ride, or you're really allergic to riding with a bag, slip us a cheque or donate what you can online: https://mustardseed.ca/donate-to-the-mustard-seed.

Think about how easily you justify buying:
  • a couple of gross gels - $5
  • a water bottle that doesn't totally suck (but that still stinks after three rides) - $8
  • post-ride coffee and a breakfast sandwich (when you can get it at home for half the cost, but you're a lazy so-and-so) - $10
  • socks with pictures of bikes on 'em - $12
  • a handful of chewbs - $15
  • chain lube developed by NASA (or was it NASCAR?) that the guy said would decrease drivetrain friction by 0.79% - $20
  • a basic floor pump with a substantial proportion of plastic parts - $40
  • gloves that might make it through more than one winter - $50
  • a half-way decent, but-still-cheap light - $65
  • an okay helmet from the clearance bin (in the wrong colour—but *Damn* that's a good deal!) - $75
  • just one hot, new Conti Grand Prix 5000 tyre - $100
  • another event jersey (when Holy God you already have A LOT of jerseys!) - $115
  • an annual Strava Summit subscription (when you only strap on the heart-rate monitor three times in February) - $125
  • a helmet that saves you 50 grams and makes you look way faster and more gullible - $150
We've all been there. But now imagine how it would feel to divert that money just this one time to help those Victorians who need it most. Mustard Seed improves the lives of an average of 5,000 local people every month.

So go pack your bag for Friday, or donate now! Make a gift to a stranger who needs it. And recognize the immeasurable, impecuniary wealth we all enjoy as members of the best cycling club anywhere!

.

THANK YOU to the many folks who hauled and donated goods for Mustard Seed this morning, or who wrote a cheque or made an online donation. You are a very generous bunch!

Some morning snaps are posted here (along with an upload button, if you have some more to share): https://tripleshotcyclingphotos.smugmug ... tard-Seed/ [see your latest Rivet for the viewing password]

We used to hold this food-drive in the lead-up to Christmas (along with all the other seasonal charitable events around the city.) But the Mustard Seed is grateful to have our support at the beginning of the school year, when some families face higher needs.

If you haven't yet had a chance to contribute to Tripleshot's annual community charity event, please consider donating online now.

Our food and fund drive for the Mustard Seed has raised a respectable 80 lbs of food and $630... so far!

You can still donate to the Tripleshot event at this link. The Mustard Seed site has a new tick-box for "Tripleshot Cycling Ride"—so future donations should count toward our final total.

The Victoria Wheelers hold their own backpack ride tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 14). If you still have some goods to donate, please consider dropping them at the Wheelers' collection point: Oak Bay Marina, soon after 9. (As fun as it is to compete with another club, the real goal is to help out those in need. 8) )
