TS youth team members Alen and Isla are racing in North America's biggest u17 stage race this week. They started well in the first road stage, a rainy, hilly road race over 66 km.
Race reports:
Alen:
“I picked up a few kom points but I didn't full on sprint for them so I think I could pick up more. On the climb I made the splits and was in a group of fifteen at one point off the front. Anyway as expected it was sketchy as hell but I stayed safe and had very few sketchy moments that happened to me”
“Also last night we were intimidated a lot by all the man childs with beards and stuff and we ended up beating lots of them which makes us all more confident in the next races”
Isla:
"“Today was good, the circuit course had two distinctive climbs one of them quite big and was the kom. It was super rainy so that was hard for the descent but I wasn't too bothered by the weather. As always in Quebec the riding is quite aggressive, so it was fast of the start, first big climb I was third wheel we were riding pretty steady but at a good tempo so a hard or quite hard, second one slowed down, third lap Magdalein went off the front and maybe ten other girls formed a chase groupe I was at the middle back and she was caught before I got to the front. Then she went back off the front on the fifth lap she was a wheel away from me but her jump was just too fast. Since the start the pace was tight so girls were piling off the back pretty fast, after her attack our group was about fifteen and then a few girls got back on. After that attacks flew but nothing got away, in the sprint I was close to the front and I think I finished around top ten overall. In all it was good, I felt strong on the climbs and my positioning I think was good as well. Tomorrow is the hill climb and tt so that will shake up the gc a lot anyways the race has been a blast!”
