The 5th and last Speedway race was good fun for all, except the A's, who agreed that it was best not to race on a freshly-wetted surface. The B's started on a dry track and had an exciting race, but reported that by the last few laps wheels were starting to slip dangerously.
Before continuing with few sentences on the racing, I have to apologize for not thanking Craig B last week - he was amazing with the injured C's. This week Tracy took charge of the registration desk - a huge help. Thanks.
The C race got underway with the regulars and several new racers - we included a $20 prime and a $20 purse for the win. Shine (Shane) won the prime and Andrew (new racer) won the race. Paul C. lead several laps. Congratulations to all. The group held together very well - it's been amazing to watch the progress: several people that were dropped after a few laps a month ago, are now hanging in there to the end, or to within a few laps of the end. The B race started with an attack on lap one by Trevor O. That set the tone for a fast race. There were several attacks, and on the prime lap Paul O-Callahan broke free to take the $20 prize. A few laps later Max broke out of the pack. It was never clear he'd stay ahead. The pack didn't let him get away, but didn't catch him either. After about three laps on his own, one B racer bridged. The two of them shared the work, more or less, and did another three or four laps just ahead of the peloton. With three laps to go it looked like the group had left it too late. They had, but rider two (not Max) faded just enough to be a carrot for a full-on surge. Max won and racer two (I'll find his name) ended up in the top ten, but was passed with 50m to go by, among others, Paul O., who had a great race.
The A race cancellation went well too. Nice that there were no objections, though several had to ride up Bear Mountain to relieve the tension.
