And now for something completely different...

MY ride stats for Friday. If you're wondering why we've instituted a "foot down" rule at the top of a climb, check out my heart rate at the top of Ash. Had to be home early hence the detour at the top of King George.

Heart rate of 184 on the climb! Makes Josh's max of 170-something look kinda lame eh?

Proof the back half of the group works harder. Noble proletariat. Time to add the 'Hammer and Cycle' to the jersey.

Absolutely correct. The fast guys sure don't get the quality workout those of us at the back of the train look forward to on every ride! They probably couldn't handle the effort we put out :P

On Friday I went up Ash at 166bpm. My peak HR was in the sprint where I got to 180. I was expecting it to be higher but when I jumped initially it was at the same time as Chris F so I grabbed his wheel and sat in (interesting amount of recovery) and then bolted around him with only about 50-75m to the finish and pipped Gavin. Max speed in the sprint was 54.5.

Do you guys upload your data into sportstracks or similar to compare? Garmin Connects filters and smooths your data, so you don't see instantaneous heart rate or speed spikes. You also have to make sure in the data recording options on your garmin that you have it set to 1 second intervals, and not "smart recording".

thanks for the tip about the misnamed "smart recording". I am currently downloading the Garmin to:

Sporttracks
Garmin Connect (online)
Garmin Home Training Centre; and
Training Peaks

I am trying to decide which one I like the best. So far the one ahead is Training Peaks (but I have only 5 days left in the free trial then I have to pay $120 for it - ouch!) as it is the only one I can get all my Polar data from the past 4 years into as well. It also is "expandable" to add power if I ever get that far.

The one thing I havent been able to get it to do though is show the gps course. So I am leaning towards a "combo" of Carmin Connect and Training Peaks.

Anyone else use any other programs with their Garmin??

Ha, this is a moment when I can beat most if not all of you! My heart rate usually peaks at 199 after Ash  Who can beat that?

I should clarify - I'm pretty sure there was no one behind me when I got to the top of Ash. I'm just trying to survive out there, man!
