** Observatory Hill Access Closed July 27-29 for Construction (and limited access next week) **

Got this message from the Observatory Site Operations Supervisor. This will affect Sunday's Social ride:

Hi there,

I hope everyone is having a great summer. I just wanted to provide a heads up that Observatory Hill will be closed to all vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic this upcoming weekend. This will include Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday due to the construction occurring on the site. Your assistance to disseminate this message to all your cycling colleagues is greatly appreciated.

Please also note that the following week (Jul 30 – Aug 3) the plan is for the roadway in front of the new building construction site to be torn up culminating with paving at the end of the week (Friday, Aug 3rd). So during working hours on this week, cyclists may be restricted on their hill climb to turning around at the Site Services building.

Just another update. While road rebuilding and paving work begins, cyclists will only be allowed access up to the beginning of the building site (i.e. cyclists will have to turn around before the Site Services Building). This control will only occur during regular working hours Mon-Fri. This restriction will likely start tomorrow (Wednesday, Aug 1st and continue into early next week). Flaggers will be present. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Also just a heads up that we have ground some shallow rumple strips at the stop sign in front of the main building to remind vehicle and bicycle traffic to stop at the stop sign. A number of vehicles and cyclists continue to blow through this area with no regard to this traffic control or the hazard it presents. Any help you can provide to convey the message is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Further to my previous email dated 31st of July, final preparation and paving work is now scheduled to occur this Thursday, Aug 9th (tomorrow) and Friday Aug 10th. So while final grading and paving work proceeds once again cyclists will be turned back at the Site Services building. Generally speaking this restriction will be during working hours both those days.
