Some more footnotes to the race.

Casey Garrison is a TS u19 provincial team member and has a personalized training program from the provincial coach. On her plan Sunday was a 3 hr ride. But instead of doing it on her own, she asked if she could ride C race with the younger riders, and help dropped riders. She stuck with Nicky, 11, as he fought to hold a fast pace (35 kph by one ts garmin), then encouraged him when he was dropped to take a lap out, jump back in, and complete the last few laps in the pack. Then she rode the B race, finishing in the bunch along side another 4 older teammates. And, oh yeah, she rode there and back from her home near Mackenzie and shelbourne, with a bit extra on the way home.

Griffen Hart is still recovering from a tough 6 days of racing in Superweek, but used the last few laps that he could manage in B to try to get his team mate Isla up to the front.

Connor Bosenberg has been off the bike on holiday for 5 weeks, but did the B race with his teammates. He wanted to take a pass, so I suggested he use it as motorpace training (training that pros do to mimic the positioning skills and micro-accelerations of riding in a pack), take a lap when tired, and jump back in. I fully expecting the 15 year old ego would firmly reject the idea. But he did it, took at least one lap out, and declared, "Wow i felt way better than i thought i would."

For TS members worried about pressure racing vcls, the organizers welcome riders training and taking laps out, as long they don't affect the result near the front. Victoria Wheelers organisers Karl Ulrich and his wife Liz actually say in their start line instructions: "Please feel free to take laps out and get back in the pack instead of riding around by yourself. And remember to practice things like drinking from your bottle while in the pack. That's what these are for."
