Winter Gloating Points for Matt

Matt slings coffee for us at Shoal Point Tuesdays and Fridays. Pay him some respect on Friday; he's smily and has a beard. Today was his first Tripleshot ride and it was pissing rain for most of the ride, including when we all left home.
I give Matt 50 winter gloating points for making a gutsy entrance. I'm inclined to dock him 10 because he very inconsiderately made me feel small and weak on the hills, but then I guess most people have that effect.
Today was also the smallest turnout I've ever seen. Matt joined Peter and I for the Farm Team. We then decided to do a hybrid and headed over for some hills, figuring "the group" must be over in Caddy Bay. We joined Greg, Al and Jen. Six riders total on both rides -- and it wasn't even snowing.
By the time we made it to Willows Beach, we were only four hardy souls in the pelting rain. But truth be told, plus 8 degrees felt like Hawaii!
So kudos to the new guy for being tougher than most of us. [You should get your shifts changed, Matt, so you can ride and drink instead of pouring.]

I can attest to actually witnessing the four hardy fools on their bikes screaming along Dallas road at 7am. I was out on Dallas road running with my wife in the rain--it's a foolish sport, running that is, really. Like cycling it involves moving one's legs up and down, but without a bike to cushion the impact, things go squeak and ouch. One needs a run every once in a while to remind yourself why cycling is so superior and civilized.

Can I give myself an extra 10 pts for riding home in the dark with no headlight?
My cygolite packed it in somewhere around cattle point. One moment I'm having a nice chat with Peter, the next I wondering why I can't really see the person in front of me (did you ever notice there aren't a whole lot of street lights on that section of road?)

Well done Matt. It must be the great coffee you make that got you out there. My excuse is no bike; my 17 year old shifters shifted into retirement. Don't make things like they used to...

Maybe it's time to ask Santa for a new bike.

Thanks Brian, I may take you up on it, but for now replacing the cable seems to have helped. It was slightly frayed near the lever. Haven't ridden it yet. That will be the test.

Yup. Details are here:
http://tripleshotcycling.servebbs.com/v ... f=15&t=556
We usually cluster near the parking overhang under Pareto Logic, just off the corner. If you arrive in the general area around 5:55, just follow all the (increasingly) gaily-
coloured cyclists flitting towards the assembled bikelights like moths to a flame.
Details on all our rides are in another thread off the main index:

Hope Sunday ended well for you. Welcome aboard!
