Hey Jimmy thanks for the ammunition. This morning I read the story in the TC about the cyclist in the new bike lane who was run over by the guy jonesing for his Big Mac. So I decided since it was raining and there were probably fewer people using it, and today is the day that council is deciding on another bike lane on Fort St, I figured I would make a special effort to head over and use the new bike lane on my ride today. You know, show some support and fly the flag and all that.
So I'm rolling to a stop heading down Pandora as I come to the intersection at Douglas St. This kid working the construction site steps off the sidewalk and into the bike lane. He's wearing a hard hat and carrying a bucket, and as I roll by him I can hear him muttering "Move the F**k over, you f**king F$%k etc, etc...". So I stop, cause, you know, it's a red light, and I turn around and I say "Why are you swearing at me? I'm just riding my bike here."
So buddy, who kept walking slowly away, no doubt due to my imposing physique, turns around and continues to spout profanity at me. I don't know what he's saying but he's clearly not happy. I say to him "Have a nice day, pal." But he won't stop. He's yelling at me and you can see by his scowl that he's miserable. So I say to him "How's everything at home? How's the wife treating you? Everything okay?"
And I have to thank you Jim! It made me laugh out loud. Normally that kinda thing would ruin my day and the fact that I can laugh about it is a gift. Thanks dude.
Shout out to Jim W.
