medals/trophies

I'm looking for creative/artistic/clever ideas for Speedway VCL awards.
The plan this year is to present 1st, 2nd, and third place finishers (A, B, and C races) with awards on the podium.
Many, years ago I was in a mountain race and the club that organized gave out hand-made medals made from small 'rounds' of wood. An approx. 5cm diameter branch cut into 0.5 cm thick rounds and hand engraved. No doubt it took some time, but probably cost the club nothing. Can we do something similar, or different, but similarly free? Engraved bike parts? Anyone got clay and a kiln? Can ChampSys make custom hats for us? By the time it's all done, we'll need 36 of them.
If you have other ideas for enhancing the carnival atmosphere at the Speedway, please reply as well.
