Medio Giro Sardegna 2010

Post by JohnT »

I've been keen to enter a real stage race ever since learning about the Jedermann Tour of Germany. I haven't found any evdience that that race is still being run. However, there is a 2010 version of the Tour of Sardinia for the likes of us. The link below has some information, though it's not an official site.

Seven stages incl. a Tean Time Trial!

Just an idea. It's in April.

John,

Lets talk about this. Any chance you can do some research to confirm the basic deatils we would need to deal with? In particualr how the heck do we get there and what is the total anticipated costs etc. I had a quick look at the website and it seemed that we woud need to book/pay by Dec 31st so there isnt lots of time to make a decision.

I need to make a decision on Ireland by Christmas as well so......

Flights from Victoria to Olbia (closest to the start) start at $1800 and quickly climb to several grand for various airlines. But, Flights to Alghero are about $1300 for all airlines. The first city is closest to the start but both are on the island of Sardinia. The first (United) would take us from San Fran to Frankfurt to Italy. The second goes through Toronto and Rome (very different routes to the same small island). So, airfares don't seem to be crazy expensive.

The race is 427 km long.

Stage 1: 92 km
Stage 2: 72 km
Stage 3: 81 km
Stage 4: 62 km (33 hairpin bends)
Stage 5: 21 km Team Time Trial (6 men or 4 women, but no mixed teams).
Stage 6: 91 km
Stage 7: Individual TT (20 km).

Looks like the hotel is 500 Euro for the week.
