Hey Thursday loopy folks,

Status update on the Ring Road and construction.

It's Tuesday morning and there are steel plates over the Ring Road between Administrative Services (Michael Williams Building) and the Business and Economics Building. That's at about 12:00 if you're looking at this map of the Ring:

I believe it's part of the same project that's been causing trouble elsewhere, but in a very different part of the Ring (the older project is at 8:00 on the same map). Not likely to be resolved by Thursday, judging from the size of the trench. Not sure on the status of the other hole in the road that has been causing headaches over the last couple weeks.

As of Tuesday, I would say that it's not safe to ride at UVic. There is a new area of construction with road plates as Martin mentioned. The existing gap in the road, which had been filled with hard packed gravel, has been loosened up over the past week. Much of the gravel has been displaced and there are numerous potholes in the short unpaved section.

I would recommend riding laps of the Tuesday box, or of beacon hill park.

I say we do Beacon Hill so we can do the same basic workout... just like we did the other day.

Where to meet? I vote petting zoo @ 6am.

I didn't scope the whole ring, but it's bad around the new hole. 3 plates, not all at a 90 degree angle to one's trajectory. Good call to head to Beacon Hill.

Sounds like Ring Road is still in bad shape.

Just rode the ring road. Slippery steel plate still at North end, 9:00 gravel the same as last week. BHP looks better.

Can we get another update?

Yep. As of last night both trenches were filled in with gravel, but poorly. The older one has potholes in the gravel and both have decent lips.

I'm not planning to do loops tomorrow, so my James Bay bias shouldn't be figuring in to my recommendation. My advice would be to stick to BHP for now.

with my bias of living 5min from UVic I would vouch for Ring Rd. tomorrow... but it's a heavy bias...

Matt, tomorrow is Friday. You might be all by yourself at UVIC.

Ring Road is terrible - holes big enough to damage cars this evening. I don't recommend riding for training or even just to get somewhere.

Beacon Hill again?

Yep. We rode the affected part of the Ring Road for hills this morning, and there are still two rough gravel patches. I recommend BHP.

Rode through the construction zone this morning. Just as bad as last week. I recommend BHP for March 30 Thursday loops.
