VCL 2017

First face to face meeting this evening. Very similar schedule to last year, but lots of exciting new plans for 2017 as well. Tentative schedule out soon.

I'll need more help this year. Only three events planned at the Speedway, but I'd like very much to ramp things up with podium presentations after each race and maybe awards for the best 3-race performances.

This will require a few people to commit to helping at all three events.

Note that even if we don't add these extras, we are going to have to record our own results in 2017, which means finish line photographs and observers, so ... more help needed either way.

It's a lot of fun and I've had lots of help in the past, so this isn't me complaining at all - just a heads up that this year it will be more of a race committee thing.

Please post suggestions as well as offers to help here.

Oh. One more thing. If you are buying a new bike for racing in 2017, don't get one with disk brakes.

Thanks,

JohnT

John, I'd like to help out more at the events (other than being results fodder for children and other faster racers)...

Speedway VCL Dates for 2017:

May 3, 10, 17 and June 7.

I will write again soon with some ideas about these events. Podiums, prizes and maybe even a new course all all possibilities.

John, David, Geoff, and Neil, and all the others who help, thank you very much for doing this. The VCL is important to lots of folks, including the TS youth program. It's the only place besides the track you can learn to ride in bunches up to 3 and 4 abreast. And kinda hard to learn to be a road racer without that experience of the close and randomly flowing amoeba that is the peloton. (Okay, maybe that wasn't at the level of "...a murmuration of lycra starlings..." level, but it's a good as I can do on one coffee...) Especially for 6:00 am-resistant teenagers.

It may seem to be merely a fun, social, healthy competitive community gathering, but it's also a major learning and safety initiative. Thank you, on behalf of the youth coaches, riders, and parents.
