Spin classes with a twist

It seems like it might be one of those wetter than usual and possibly colder than usual winters. Because I'm not as adventurous as some and haven't ventured into cross, and I'm not as brave as others so not as much into riding in the dark and wet as I have been in the past (a couple of crashes will do that to a person!), I am once again looking at spin class options. Wes Wood from Limitless Training reached out to me to see if there would be any interest from the club in holding spin classes just for us. His schedule currently allows Wednesday mornings at 6:00 a.m. as an option. We also discussed the idea of holding a private session on Saturday mornings at either 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. for 90 minutes of structured spin intervals followed by 50 minutes of strength training, something most of us could use more of. I think this would be a great option for winter training and am keen to do both of these time slots as Wes is an awesome spin and fitness trainer, and he has an awesome new studio with new equipment. Wes taught the spin classes held at OBB last year for the Wheelers, and anyone who attended those will tell you that they are kick ass classes that really helped keep them in solid biking form over the winter. Wes is prepared to offer the same training program for us if we can get a group of 5 or 6 committed individuals. The cost would be about $15 per class, depending on how many you sign up for.

Below is more info on the Saturday program he had in mind. The Wednesday 6:00 a.m. slot would just be an hour of the structured intervals. Start time would be either 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. for Saturday. If you are interested, please post here or PM me with which day(s) you would be interested and what time you would prefer to start on the Saturday.

The Limitless Spin series is changing indoor cycling classes in Victoria. Our rides provide members an experience like no other. Be inspired while burning calories with the most up-lifting music and high-end spin studio. We would like to offer the option to train hard every Saturday with back to back classes.

The Athlete is 90 minutes of cycling specific sets. This session offers inspirational coaching from two of the best indoor cycling instructors in Victoria. Enjoy fast pace music with a focus on correct pedal stroke and outdoor cycling skills. For athletes that enjoy racing road and triathlon, this session will focus on a variety of different components including speed, cadence, strength, endurance and power output. This session also allows members to bring their own bike and trainer in for a more personalized session. Improve your performance now!

For those who are looking to really improve their strength for next year, continue on with another 50 minute functional strength class.

Functional 50 is a phenomenal high intensity class that focuses on athletic conditioning for 50 mins. Train in a group environment where you can push each other while getting the results you want. We believe in the importance of mobility, strength, speed and power and have combined all of these components into one class. No class is ever the same; you will combine cardiovascular and functional strength exercises within timed sets with short recovery. Train hard, Train smart.

This sounds pretty hard/interesting, actually. As the reality of serious wet and wintery conditions sets in, this bit of variety may just help some of us work through the I-don't-wanna-ride-my-winter-bike funk. Put me down as interested.

I'm intrigued as well but am not clear if this is on spin bikes or if we need to bring our own bike and trainer?

At this point I can't commit 100% but would be interested in the Saturday option. Since our daughter plays soccer on saturday mornings, I'd probably have to come to some but not all, or switch it up with Greg some saturdays and me other saturdays.

Would love to stay in the loop on this. Thanks!

I'm excited that there is some interest in this!

Louise, to answer your question, Wes has brand new high quality spin bikes in the studio, but I'm pretty sure there is room for bikes and trainers too. He has a big studio with all the amenities, so showers, etc included.

Wes contacted me today to let me know that the new Saturday spin class will start this Saturday, Nov. 12th at 7:00 a.m. It will be a 90 minute class of intervals simulating real workouts you would do on the road. His fitness studio, located at 582 Johnson Street, is fully equipped with the latest spin bikes as well as a wide assortment of other gym equipment and amenities. If you would prefer to bring your own bike and trainer, there is room for that as well. For more information and to sign up, please visit his website at: limitlessvictoria.com

Hope to see you there for some indoor suffering!
