Saturday June 11, Long but not so Slow

Post by barton bourassa »

I am switching my long ride day from Sunday to Saturday for the next few months. I am hoping to ride long, up to 120 K, hilly, and with intensity. LSD average to date has been 25/26 K/Hr. Over the next little while I'd like to see that increase to 28 with some "race" pace or "race" heart rate thrown in during the last 10 or 20 K.

If you are interested in coming along, I'll be leaving Discovery Coffee on Menzies near Michigan in James Bay at 7 (better coffee than Starbucks!), rain or shine.

The route for this Saturday: https://www.strava.com/routes/5311225
The little bit through Walfred and Sunheights should be interesting.

Barton.

I'm in Barton.
I'll probably die a slow, painful death but I'll see.
You never know unless you push the envelope, right?
The route looks interesting. There are roads that I have never been on. Fun.
Cheers,
Mark

I will join you tomorrow Barton. Last weeks ride was great - I will join in on the Goose somewhere near Burnside.

This ride looks miserable with pointless climbs.

But I'm sure you have your reasons... Have fun!

No need to mince words, Rolf. Tell us how you really feel. Personally, I think it looks like a lumpy turd. Not the healthy kind, either.

Check here to see how your ride measures up.

Type two for sure, lumpy and sausage like. Exactly how I feel now!

Four brave souls headed out, three came back! This was quite intense. A lot of climbing. Sad part was a lot of the downhill was quite treacherous for someone like me that does not corner at high speed so well and keeping in mind Maureen's experience last weekend and hearing my wife Shannon sitting on my right shoulder telling me that if I want to keep my bike I better not end up in the hospital!

While the pace was not what I had anticipated the average hr was up where I wanted it and legs and lungs are telling me I worked hard, I am happy. An intense ride. The climbing was great! Frank Shorter, the greatest marathon runner to come out of Canada or the US, once said, Hills are like speed work in disguise! There are a lot of reasons to climb hills again and again. Hills are your friend! Embrace!

Until next Saturday!

Have fun with that! If it is off road gravel type stuff, not something I do.
