Monday morning ride on Wednesday - sorry for the late notice

Post by Claire »

Lisa H. and I are planning on doing the Monday ride tomorrow morning. We'll hit the Alpha St Starbucks at 6am to see if anyone agrees it's a good idea and wants to join us. Pace will be Lisa/Claire pace, so B1-ish... I know the route, so no worries about becoming lost à la Christian. We may revisit the route again if it's fun - but it may or may not be on a Monday.

We are also scheming up a longer ride for Friday morning, either starting at 6 or 7. Route TBD but maybe something like Metchosin or the Malahat... Stay tuned.

The ride was great, and it was nice to ride a "novel" route that is less travelled (kudos to the club members who put it together). Traffic was excellent for the most part - didn't see a car on Prospect Lk Rd until near the end - but volumes did pick up a bit by Mt Doug Pk. Not exactly hammering, we averaged just over 28k/hr at a steady pace. We also threw in the climb up Petworth to rack up some superfluous vertical. The ride took exactly two hours from Alpha Sbx to Shoal Pt MH. Definitely worth repeating this ride - perhaps even as a possible regular Wednesday ride? - but it might be best to wait until it's a little lighter in the mornings. The twists and turns of Prospect Lk Rd would be more fun if you could see them coming - not to mention an improved ability to spot potholes, gravel patches and wayward amphibians.
