Wanted to borrow or rent: trainers and mtbs for youth team

Hi all:

The youth program has a trainer night once a week, but several of the kids don't have trainers. Anyone got one they aren't using, even for a few weeks? They would be stored at the Maria Montessori school gym locked equipment room.

We also do an Mtb ride once a week, and same story, some families are not ready to buy another bike just yet. If you have a basic Mtb with a suspension fork, and v brakes or discs, and would be willing to let it be used a few times while someone decides if they like mtbing enough to buy one. Any damage repaired to your satisfaction. I rent out two underused family cross bikes to youth team riders, so would broker a rental if you like.

Thanks!

Hi Lister,

I have a Kurt Kinetic trainer and a solid, but old, Santa Cruz Heckler with full suspension and discs, neither of which get much use at all. I'd be quite happy for some juniors to use 'em...

Thanks Rolf! The trainer session is tonight at 4:30. Any chance I could pick the trainer up before 4?

And for the Mtb, can I post the size for interested riders, and then connect you? My basement is dangerously close to S-1 number of bikes. That work?

Hello Lister,

I have an unused trainer and an under used Marin 29er mountain bike, size large, with front suspension and disc breaks I would be willing to lend out.

Wow, thanks Tim. I'm leaving home about 4 for the trainer session. Any chance I can pick up en route? If, not, on the way home? I'll post the word on the Mtb, and as above, either pick it up when someone confirms they'll use it, or arrange for them to meet you, as you prefer.

Rolf, here's your trainer in action with Ryan Wakelin. Ryan's training for the Canada Cup Mtb race at Bear Mountain March 5. He may have gotten sweat on it; hope that's ok. :).

Paying it forward, Ryan also volunteered for trail building Sunday where he hauled rock, excavated and dug soil to repair eroded trail. And helps Bryson coach the beginner Mtb skills session. Worthy kid methinks.

Ha! That's great, Lister. Looks like the green machine is finally finding out what speed feels like. And sweat just makes things go faster, non?

I rode a bit of Bear Mtn. for the first time last week. Some beauty trails out there. Would be fun to head out and see Ryan and others compete in March.

Let me know if anyone can make use of my old Heckler.

Race details so far here: http://bearmountain.ca/Events/Canada-Cup-XC

At last nights SIMBS AGM, Scott Mitchell reported that there are races there for "the average rider", and "no, we won't make you suffer, they'll be under an hour." And for riders with heavier bikes, they will have timed downhill sections (the new cool flow bits I'm betting) so you can cruise the climbs and compete with other gravity aficionados your way.

And despite sounding like a cyclocross fan, the heckler was built for that! :)

I have a hard tail Brody mtb fits a person 5'8" to 5'10" maybe. It has not been ridden in a while and may need a bit of help but overall in very good condition.

Thanks Barton. I'm sure it's in great shape knowing your gear, but could I pick it up Saturday am to give it a once over before our Sunday ride?

Thanks all for these Got two smaller riders looking for bikes. Probably xs or s sized bikes. Basic hard tails fine, but both are also expert cross riders so whatever level they'll be well treated.

Hey Lister,

I also have a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer which I'm not currently using and I'm happy to lend out.

I also have a Kona hard tail with v-brakes that is currently at Josh E's place. I think it currently has flat pedals on it. If you're interested I could arrange to get it back this weekend. If you put the seat down it fits a rider who is about 5'5"

Cheers,

Shawn

We've got a 90's era steel frame 26" inch V-brake mountain bike if that would help for Sunday. Hardly used sized for 5' 2" tall or so.

Curran, here's your bike in action under new youth rider Liam Hughes. Thank you. It was Liam's first ever time to Hartland, and he went from stalled out about 100 metres from the parking lot, to riding the rocks on Kokanee Highway, the Plunge, and shock treatment. Using brand new to him skills of ready position, climbing on loose surfaces, weight shift for roll downs, lifting his front wheel and unweighting the rear when climbing a rock or root. Thanks for giving him the key to that door.

Note also the donated clothing from juniors worlds rider John Wilcox (formerly ProCity), and local ride gear, I think from Olympian Gillian Carlton. Payin' it forward.

As well, Connor Bosenburg was riding a trek donated to TS youth Program by Barb Bialokoz, with parts from Evan Carey's family. Connor is the fourth current TS youth rider to use this bike.

Altogether 11 riders out, almost all on some borrowed or donated gear.

The A group was coached by Bryson Bowers, the b's by Claire Townsend Morgan, and yours truly the c's.

Thanks to all the TS members who have offered gear, clothes, or bikes and trainers. They're much appreciated.

Hey Lister, if you're still looking I've got 2 lovely Ghost hardtails I could lend, only a couple years old. Mine is a large (got any tall kids? I'm 6"2...) and my girlfriend's is a small (she's 5"5).
