Hi all:
Just finished my second indoor ride this morning after signing up with Zwift. Check them out, and sign up for a free trial. I'll plan to ride Tues and Thursday mornings at 6:00, maybe Saturday and/or Sunday at 7:30 if the weather is bad. Come join in for some virtual reality cycling fun. Zwift.com

I will try and join you- have been playing with Trainer Road on my Trainer, and have been meaning to give Zwift a try.
Have also been toying with getting some of the Sufferfest videos and maybe kinomap...A whole world of stuff out there these days.

Not sure Im sold on Zwift yet- will give it a bit more time, but I think I prefer trainer road so far..

How does this work? Are you guys physically together (a gym? someone's garage?), or are you just connected virtually and your avatars have all the fun?

Its a virtual ride. You tag onto the avatar of your mate and try and hang in there. Your smart trainer ramps up the resistance etc. according to the course topography, draft etc.

Claire: look up Zwift online and sign up for a free trial. You need an ANT transmitter for speed/cadence, an USB ANT receiver "Dongle" for your computer and any old trainer.

Didnt realise you could do it with any trainer....Ant Dongle- $45- Suunto ministick from Mec- takes 2 days to arrive
It definitely hurts more when someone else is out there- especially when they jump you on the sprint

Simple Claire, you just get on Rob's virtual wheel, sit up and have your coffee while he pulls you along.

Rob - what variety Smart Trainer do you have, and how've you liked it?

I have a dumb trainer. Just a simple Elite Fluid Trainer. It works fine. Lots for sale on used Victoria, or support your lbs. Check the site, it lists all kinds of options you can choose from. Big 5 hour ride tomorrow with UCI team MTN Qhubeka.
