Thanks for all the advice about bike lights.
After my mom heard the story of the latest crash and me bemoaning the price of the lights I was looking at, she said "go get a light and it will be your Christmas present"… yup, I'm 50 and my mom is still taking care of me (and she said it is for you guys too).
In the end, I decided on the Specialized Flux Expert http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/ftb/li ... dlight from Russ Hayes. It is AMAZING!!!!!!! It is 1200 lumens and lights from shoulder to shoulder (road shoulders). I rode up front through Mount Doug Parkway this morning because I wanted to test it out, and it was amazing how different the parkway looks when you can see. I felt a lot safer.
Okay, I have done enough evangelizing - almost… if you have some extra money, it is a great investment into your (and the group's) safety… If you don't have extra money, talk to your local sponsor (mom, spouse, kids, friends, neighbors… do a 'go fund me'…)
