Hi. Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but I'm thinking of trying the cx race at Topaz on Oct. 12th. A friend had offered to lend me his, but he's racing intermediate and I'm thinking that might be my category.
For anyone who knows me - what cat. do you think would suit me best?
For anyone that's generous with their bike... and happens to ride a ~52-53cm... any chance I can borrow one for my first cx event??
Any other input (including booting me to the appropriate forum) is appreciated

CX bike borrow?

Claire,
re: what category to enter.
The race being in the city there will be a few more people out to give it a try so beginner will be busy. Regardless I would guess that you would likely win the beginner race and finish top 10 in intermediate.
For comparison Denise was out on the B1 ride today, she raced intermediate the last couple of years winning some of the fastest races and is in expert this year.

There are two races in victoria this year so you could always do beginner this weekend and if you like it intermediate next time. The other option is to try cross club on Wednesday (5:30 and 6:00 pm Layritz Park) to get a feel for how things will work.
Enjoy

Re: CX bike borrow?
Thanks for the input, Hugh. That's quite helpful. Trying it out on a Wed would be cool, but my evenings are quite full these days, and it might be a bit of a hoot to go in "cold" anyway. I've done a few bike races in my day (okay, dozens) and even some cross races back when they were semi-secret (on a MTB). Regardless, this should be interesting...
