I see this on the events calendar for Sunday. Does anyone know if it is taking place?

I was planning on doing the Tour de Victoria route (140km) this Sunday as part of my ramp up for the Whistler Gran Fondo. I was thinking about leaving at 6am, averaging 27km/hr, and taking a few quick stops for nutrition.
As always, anyone is welcome to join.

I'm afraid this event was put on the calendar, but with no subsequent followup. Lasy year it was a mainly a "grass roots" event, whereby a group of us advertised that we going to ride the route on a particular day, and bunch of others joined in. Mark Ford provided basic support - driving out to meet us with extra water and muffins at the top of Munn's and then again in the parking lot just south of the round-about in Sidney.

If people are interested in doing something similar this year, it wouldn't take much by way of organization. It won't be me, however, as I'm on the east coast until the weekend.

I'm really looking for a longer ride in preparation for the actual Tour de Vic. We have a sitter for 7:30 so I won't make Mark's schedule. It's likely we will ride with the Sunday group out to Island view and continue out around the peninsula if anyone is interested in joining. I should clarify that this is a maybe as mountain biking is the other option for us.

May be interested in one of the longer rides.

Mark, where would you be leaving from at 0600?

I live in James Bay, so we can pretty much start at the Tour de Victoria start line.
I'm cool with starting at my place. It's near Superior and Oswego.

It was announced at the ride this AM that we would leave as a group from the Starbuck's on Douglas and Alpha across from Mayfair Mall at 6:30.

Well looks like we have a few options.

Tour de CRD ( 2nd Annual )

At the Friday ride we did announce that a few people would leave Alpha st., Drive thru Starbucks
at 6:30 a.m. and do the 150km Tour de Victoria route. Of course there are a lot of optional short cuts.

I will swing by the official start at 6am...and will also go to Alpha Starbucks at 6:30, in case some people that were out on friday, but don t always read this, show up.

3 or 4 groups from various locations works for me. We see alot of each other, quite often in a very organised way....so we will see how it unfolds.

I'm confused too. Is there an alternative to the normal Sunday ride going early tomorrow from somewhere along some route?

Probably a handful of riders are going to do the Vic Tour route and the others will ride the CRD ride. Most (or eventually all) will meet at 6:30am, Alpha/Douglas Starbucks and proceed from there. Tour de Vic route is roughly 140km and I'm not sure how far the CRD ride is so maybe Paul can comment.

Not sure if this adds clarity or more confusion, but:

Rob Hasegawa and I are leaving from Cook Street Starbucks at 6:00 am to ride the Tour de Victoria route. It'll be an uptempo ride – not Saturday Sufferfest pace, but not 27-28 km/h either. Depending on how many people we have to share the pulls, I'm guesstimating 32-33 km/h average.

So: if you're looking for a quicker pace, see you at Cook St. @ 6:00. (Kenji...we will not be stopping in at Alpha Street SBUX to pick people up at 6:30.)

AKA tour de vic!

11 of us met at the coffee shop. 10 rolled out (John took the dog for a walk!). Let's see if I can remember everyone's name; Paul C, Mark F, Tim, Kenji, Louise P, Blair, Rich, Ritchie, Mark Smith. Four of us, Rich, Tim, Mark S and I.

The route is pretty straight forward from downtown to Prospect/Munn, Willis. There is a little dipsy doodle off of Wallace before Benvenuto then kind of standard to Sparton and Prospect. Nice left off of Prospect to Burnside to Chaster. one of the strangest turns is left off of Interurban onto Hector then left again onto Interurban later down the road. There seems to be a lot of left turns across well traveled roads. The absolute strangest is the right turn from Old W Saanich onto Doyle then around to OWS Rd via Elkwood, a steep downhill to a sharp right. Should be interesting for the riders on the day of the event.

And, lots of climbing! Over 2,100 m by my garmin.

It has been a while since I last rode this distance with this elevation; before the Penticton Fondo (only! 1500 m elevation there). I must say my legs are tired!! For Mark Smith, this was great prep for his Whistler ride in September. For the rest of us, just a great ride!!

Thanks Barton for leading us through a more than somewhat convoluted route safely and expeditiously. Lots of climbing, that is for sure, my legs are feeling it. I wonder if the paying riders will have to deal with al the cruise ship and tourist traffic at the end as we did, probably the most frustrating part.

It was a great ride today!
A huge thank you to the whole group today. Everyone was in good spirits, lots of great banter along the way, and a good feeling of teamwork overall.
I would especially like to thank Rich, Tim, and Barton for the last hour, or so, of riding. 2 reasons. 1) I was boarding the train to "Bonksville" in a big way. Thank you for slowing down a wee bit and letting me ride in the caboose for the finale. Barton's words of encouragement "Don't you dare let go of the back of that wheel!", as I slipped off a couple of times. 2) For your patience. My bike became HORRIBLY squeaky in the last hour. It was bugging the heck out of me, so I know it must have really been bugging the heck out of you guys. Not once did anyone make a comment or complain about the irritating noise. I had a look when I got home and the pinch nuts had worked themselves loose. A few more kilometers and my crank might have fallen right off.
I second Barton: My legs are tired! However, it was a fantastic ride and a very positive experience.
I can't wait for Hurricane Ridge next weekend. Tripleshot rocks!
