Looking for a bike for a guy 5 foot 9

My stepson's 18 year old friend is looking for a used bike since his was stolen (lock and all). He is about 5 foot 9, so a 54 inch or 56 inch frame maybe. He is looking for either a fixed gear, an old road bike or a cross bike. He has max $800 to spend.
