There was some talk back a few days about riding Hurricane Ridge or up and over the Malahat. Is there a plan to go long on Monday?

I've done my huricane ridege ride for the year, so apologies to Chris for not jumping on to his idea.
Re Genoa Bay, I find the Malahat a bit noisy. Could we go via the brentwood ferry?
One ride I would like to do one weeknd is this: a tour touching all 13 municipalities in the greater Victoria area. Start at Fairfield starbucks with mainline caffeine, breakfast in Metchosin, then Sooke, Langford (humpback/finlayson arm road), Highlands, lunch in Brentwood on the water, peninsula clockwise, coffee in Sydney, then home. Maybe a suitable thanksgiving turkey burnoff?
Another dream ride (for me anyway) is a cross tour of the peninsula. Kinda like step on a crack, break your mothers back ,except you can't ride on pavement. Well, as little as possible. Missing bits, but west on the goose, thetis, highlands, regional trail through Hartland, road behind Durrance lake , then??

Ooo ooo - I like the cross idea!!! That would be awesome - great idea Lister!
That being said, I may not be able to attend. I'll ask my manager if she'll grant me leniency...

thought of more bits:
from durrance, I think there's a trail east past an older school on West saanich, but not sure if it connects across Old West Saaanich towards Bear Hill Park. Then we could go south by Elk Lake, except I don't know how accepting walkers are of bikes on the bridle path west of the lake. From there, there are trails south through Quick's Bottom and Camosun Interurban, or east to the Lochside trail, and home. Or hospital. Or jail.

Looks like you can link Thetis to Prospect Lake or Munns Rd through Francis King. I think there are trails somewhere near there that take you to the dump.
Looks like West side of Elk/Beaver is bike legal.
Here are some maps that might make planning easier:

Thanks Katie, good news on elk lake. But it looks like the forum truncated the urls. Can you post the full one for the last two references?

Let's try this again:
http://www.crd.bc.ca/parks/map.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false
http://www.saanich.ca/resident/parks/pd ... ersion.pdf
http://www.highlands.bc.ca/parks/docume ... ap2009.pdf
The CRD and Saanich parks are pretty easy to see if they are "bike friendly" or not, but I can't find anything about bikes on the Highland's site.

Count me in for anything long on Monday- on or off road.
Lister- loved your route suggestions of Humpback, up Finlayson Arm, breakfast in Brentwood Bay, whatever- if the weather gods favour us that's a worthy epic.

Friday, there seemed to be some interest in a metchosin-east sooke- humpback rd, finlayson arm road ride Sunday. I'm suggesting finishing off with Munn's and the goose and back to the harbour for coffee so we can get turkey in the oven. For riders that don't know Finlayson arm, it's like doing one legged squats for 20 minutes, but in a fun way.
Likewise, there was some interest in a cyclocross tour monday. Goose-Stewart mtn-Hartland-Durrance, etc. But I'm still stringing bits of trails together. Anyone done the trail between Stewart Mountain and Fork Lake, where the entrance to Harltand mtb park is? The highlands map shows trails, but not sure if they're rideable, or even walkable with a bike.

Another missing link (besides this author) is the link from Durrance to Bear Hill.

Sure, normal time sunday am 7:00 coffee, 7:30 departure. Monday, the Fort and Foul bay location, or one with coffee?

I'm up for something new on Monday. How about Fort & Foul Starschmucks at 7? I definitely like the sound of breakfast somewhere along the way. Actually, I just like the sound of breakfast...
Dave: you have one of these weird bikes for me? Let me know when is best to pick up.
I can't ride tomorrow as I'll be tenderly massaging two big breasts with melted butter and working on the sausage. stuffing.

Oops, I see a couple of opportunities for confusion:
Although the first post was road Monday, it's now Sunday cuz we might get lost on the cross ride and miss the turkey deadline. We might get lost Sunday too, but only if we get really anaerobic on Finlayson.
Also, I meant Fort and Richmond, or an alternative with coffee, in the post above, not Fort and Foul bay (where'd that come from?!).

Oh dear, Rolf has now made correcting the Monday mtg spot harder. Shall we talk Sunday?

By the way, a lightish mtb would work fine for Monday. You will be missing that Euro-frites-with-mayonaise cool factor, but for all real purposes, it'll be fine.

Man, I would love to join you Monday. Unfortunately I'm in Vancouver fighting ferry line ups to get home. I'm definately in for next time.

I'm in for whatever Monday - just tell me what bike to bring and where to meet. I have official permission!
Slicks, nobbies, or somewhere in between - I don't care what we do as long as it has two wheels and I get to ride the shit out of it!

lets not mix stuff up. Stick to the regular meeting spots. Weekends & holiday (i.e. Monday) we meet at Fairfield Starbucks. To change that maybe a problem as not everyone is on the Forum all the time.....
So I am off to Fairfield right now...hoping its right.
