3rd Annual Tripleshot Big Loop Ride
Date Sunday 19th July 2015
Start Time: 6:00 am Meet at 5:30am for coffee before the ride
Start Location: Starbucks Alpha St across from Mayfair Mall
Qualification: A Tripleshot member – it will not be possible to join Tripleshot on the day
of the ride.
Cost: Free – no charge
Distance: 260K - 100k to Port Renfrew -150k to Lake Cowichan – 230k to Mill Bay
Route: Victoria-Sooke-Jordan River-Port Renfrew-Lake Cowichan-
We will take the Cowichan Highway back to Duncan.
(A detail route sheet/map will be posted with approximate arrival times and distance to the Control Stops.)
Control Stops: Sooke-Jordan River-Port Renfrew-Lake Cowichan.
Support: This will be provided by Marcus and his wife Nancy using their VW Camper. In addition Steve White and his wife Kara will provide “sweep” support on their motor bikes.
The support will include food, drink, bars etc. In addition the support vehicles will carry spare tubes, pump, tools, etc.
Although the ride will be fully supported riders should still plan on being self-sufficient. (Spare tube(s), water and bars etc.)
Ride Organization: There will be two groups. Fast and not so fast. The rides will be designated “no drop”. For this reason make sure you select the correct group. If you're riding with the Fast group and the pace gets too hot you can drop back to the slower group.
Mill Bay Ferry: The ferry times are: 3pm, 4:10pm and 5:20pm. The plan will be to catch the 4:10 ferry with the option of catching the 5:20 ferry. Remember to bring $5 for the ferry fare.
General information: Gearing If this is your first long ride with hills it is suggested you check your gearing – 53/39 chain-rings and a 11/23 cassette may not be appropriate for this ride!!
The weather can be very changeable from Sooke to Port Renfrew and then over to Lake Cowichan. So it is advised to bring at least a wind/rain jacket and arm warmers.
Cell Phone #'s: The cell phone number of the ride “captains” and support volunteers will be provided in case help is needed along the route. However, there is no or limited cell phone coverage between Sooke- Port Renfrew and Lake Cowichan.
Pre-training rides: It is proposed to do the normal Friday ride (35k), have coffee and then continue to ride to Sooke and back (70k). The total distance would be 100K+. First ride on 26th June after coffee.
