I wondered what you were doodling when I spied your Hotel Zed kit riding away from me on Ryan as I drove (sorry) to Thrifty's at 6:30 this morning. Nice work!

Has Steve hit a dry spell? Hmm, Star Wars characters? Is that what we've come to?
So I poetize:

More Art, Less Shite: A Shy Request to Strava Steve

Dinosaurs, Vader, Yoda and witches,
Steve draws them all, yet he moans and he bitches.
“What to draw next ?” he asks with a frown,
“I’m not that creative, and it’s a very small town.”

But we’ve got suggestions: keep your ear to the pack,
How about a buck deer with a very large rack?
Or a pig with wide wings, soaring over this town?
Or a fool on one wheel, dressed up like a clown?

Or maybe a portrait of a guy salivating,
Over Hotel Z kit, which he’s anxiously waiting?
So Strava Steve, tap your inner van Gogh,
Give us some art that would make Homer D’oh!

So many great quotations about critics and their pitiful need to diminish others for achieving what they themselves could never achieve…or, more pitiful yet, have never even attempted. But I like this one best:

“Some people insist that 'mediocre' is better than 'best.' They delight in clipping wings because they themselves can't fly. They despise brains because they have none.”

Of course, for 'brains', one could easily substitute 'creativity'. Or 'imagination'. Or 'stamina'.

Poster from my office, known as the "Centre of Mediocrity."
Where our motto is: "MEDIOCRITY: It takes a lot less time, and most people won't know the difference until it's too late."

I managed to find a cartoon that captures why Steve is so competitive, and such a winner, from the irrepressible pen of Aussie Michael Leunig....
