Message about the Observatory

In order to prevent any inconvenience we are providing information regarding the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s (RASC) Summer Observing Event Schedule and cyclist access during these events.

RASC will be holding 12 Saturday night events which are advertised on their website. These are scheduled for April 25th, May 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, July 18th, and 25th, August 1st, 8th and 29th, and September 12th.

During these events, cyclists who are intending to ride on Observatory Hill for recreation or training purposes will not be permitted access from approximately 7:00 pm onward due to the normally anticipated high volume of public vehicular traffic and associated safety concerns. Those who are cycling as their mode of transport to attend the event will be permitted access.

Can we ask that you please distribute this information to your groups and/or clubs.

Your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated as always. Thank you.

Best Regards,
