Gearing for racing in the victoria area

Hello all,

I'll be coming out to Victoria for the summer, and plan on racing the road season. I'm looking at events such as the Metchosin race, and a few other things on the mainland such as the DEVO stage race.

What is common gearing that people use in the area? I am deciding whether to bring my compact crankset or standard. I have the following options:

Cranks
  • 53/39
  • 50/36
Cassettes
  • 11-21
  • 11-25
  • 12-27
In a perfect world I would just bring both sets of chainrings, but they are not compatible.

Any input is appreciated.

Hello Richard,

I would go with 50/36 and 11/25. That should be versatile enough for any races around here which tend to be lumpy circuits. Oh wait, if you are racing against me then you should definitely go with 53/39 + 11/21

If you plan to race in Victoria you should really come to the local Victoria Cycling League races: https://victoriacyclingleague.wordpress ... -schedule/
