FYI if you're an A regular (or hopeful) we've changed the routine for the season. We'll sprint on laps 1, 3, and 5 before regrouping and hitting the waterfront. We'll be passing Bs on the box so for everyone involved let's communicate (loudly enough without disturbing the peace) when passing - As stay left and Bs stay right, hold your line, and don't peal off the front until we're in the clear.
This change will give us enough time for java and free up room at Beacon as things get busier in the coming months.
Comments? Questions?
Cheers.

Trevor,

I think this is a great idea - thanks for stickhandling the change - hopefully this will help with congestion and allow each group to have a great safe ride.

One comment that is perhaps worth considering by all of us relates to any group passing another group (A's lapping Bs; B1 passing B2; B2 passing B1 on their sprint lap, etc.). I think that the group that is about to pass another group should pause for a moment to consider WHERE they intend to pass - if it means easing of the throttle for a couple of seconds to allow for a better place to pass then that should be the norm.

For example, if the passing group is coming over the rise before the turn onto Cadboro Bay Road they should ease up until after the turn where they can pass (more) safely. Of course this responsibility rests with the rider(s) at the front of the passing group and they will likely need to communicate what they are doing to their group to avoid confusion. Equally, the group being passed can tighten up and not have riders drop back off the front as you note to help with the pass.

I recognize that when a group has a full head of steam up it is difficult to slow, but I do think that we can collectively do a better job of keeping each other safe - in part I value these discussions for the very reason that it forces us to consider how we can individually and collectively do better and have more enjoyable rides with less risk.

Thanks again,

Michael

Couldn't agree more Mike. The lead rider needs to make a call and that call should be safety first. We passed a B group this morning just past the Uplands Golf Course parking lot. We were far enough from the upcoming right hander that it worked out fine for all.
These discussions are part of what makes the various weekly TS rides as safe as they are.
Thanks Mike.
