I forgot to hit start until Mt doug X rd. I was in the 3 man lead break with Roland and Gavin that managed to stay away from King George. That hurt.

Hey, I managed to stay away from King George also! In fact, I managed to stay away the whole ride! Unfortunately my HR data is a little less exciting - pretty much a solid line at 40-44 bpm unlike the max of 193 that I saw on your data that caused me to cringe and feel ill!
Can we start a C group? Please?
Michael

These stats are fascinating. Thanks for sharing, Josh.
If Peter or Galen set up a separate thread called Ride Stats and you post every ride, I'll give you some of my sandwich -- some mornings.
I'm trying to restrain myself from running out and buying your toy. Maybe I should get a proper light first...

That's what I was thinking about! Thanks all for a good blowout this am. (I'd say I was blowing some carbon out, but that means something else now I guess.)
Josh, interesting how your HR stayed pretty level (an alpine plateau?) from KG, despite hill and speed changes. I'd say that was the 'red line', eh?
I'm sure mine would have shown a much spikier profile; a good one on Ross Bay hill when Ramsey jumped us, then a long excrutiating rise until Bob rode me off his wheel, followed by a welcome drop until Dave blew by and dragged me back up to Ramsey. I've heard you
can let a wheel go by. Anyone tried that?
Imagine if your Garmin showed lactate or respiration? Woulda popped both readouts this am...

WOW - yes, that ride will take some reflection and lactic flushing sessions
My ride stat of the day is 36.5kph average from the top of Ash (where I joined in), now that's fast
Or perhaps we go faster without the Lawless Brothers

yeah, that's pretty much redline for me (178-179) for any sort of sustainable effort. Usually on the tuesday time trials I keep it below 175 on the first lap, below about 180 until halfway down the highway on the second lap, then I just go for it. My highest finishing heartrate at the TT this year was 191. I can't get it that high first thing in the morning though.......
Since we were talking very short pulls, 10 seconds or so, and the 3 of us were evenly matched, the change in effort was never that dramatic, and the heartrate stayed pretty level. Speed was changing with hills, etc, but we kept the effort pretty consistent. The heartrate data resolution that ends up on the garmin connects site is much lower than the raw data as well, so there's a smoothing effect that makes it difficult to see 10 second efforts and 20 second recoveries. I was definitely seeing over 180 on the display on most of my pulls, but it's not showing up on the garmin connects player.
That 193 at the end is a glitch (or a small heart attack)
If anyone else has ride stats they can upload, post 'em!

Oh dear. I don't want to be around when Pete gets back. It'll be like an Astana private team meeting...

Dilletante. You are clearly not using enough EPO if you can pump your blood that fast.

I reset my computer at the meeting point and showed 34.9 average.
Summary of the ride for me.
Good : Made it into the first or second (can't remember) group after King George
Better : Chris Marshall was pulling me
Even Better : Bill Ethier was pulling Chris
Oh Crap! : Bob Cameron was pulling Bill
Was downhill from there, both literally and figuratively.
I think I like the C group idea. Meet at the usual spot and ride straight to coffee. Any takers?

As to Lister's remark about EPO--gentlemen, this is a drug you need to be careful about. As one handy drug resource tells me: "Too much EPO can increase hematocrit to the point that overall blood viscosity is increased making the blood like sludge. This thickened blood could cause the heart to work excessively hard, which may lead to a heart attack." Maybe the best counterweight to too much EPO is coffee? Gotta deal with our sludge blood some way...give me a triple shot, Barista!

Well seeing as we're all recounting our rides from this morning, may I offer my most abject apologies to the gracious group of A(iii)'s who picked up my shattered body somewhere below Beacon Hill (having freshly been chewed up and spat out by the A(ii)'s in their unsuccessful zeal to catch the foxy A(i)'s), only to watch me sit on the front of their paceline, oblivious to my obligation to pull over and let the group progress.
I just sat there, legs full of blood and all of three neurons firing, wondering what all the shouting was about. Sorry bout that...
