Hi all...

Following recent discussions about whether it's likely to be frosty in the mornings I contacted Ed Wiebe, who runs the UVic school-based weather network (and who is an avid cyclist).

If you go to their homepage (http://www.victoriaweather.ca) you will see that they have started reporting dewpoint values for their observation points. If you click on any school in their temperature contour plot you get a page that reports, among other things, the current dewpoint value for that site.

Ed Wiebe has tweaked his site so that if you go here:
http://www.victoriaweather.ca/twod.php?zone=alls you can compare plots of temperature and dewpoint.

Ed cautioned that this is a work in progress and comes with lots of caveats. The biggest is that the school-based weather sensors are located on the roofs of schools (5-10m above ground). As dewpoint is a function of both temperature and humidity, and since ground temperatures can be colder than at 5-10m above ground, the risk of frost may be higher than these maps may suggest. So, user beware! That said, this is stll the best local dewpoint information available - thanks Ed!

Roland Rabien has also just updated his figbug weather site (http://figbug.com/weather), which I know that many of you use, and it now also reports dewpoint if you click on any observation point.
