Thanks all for coming out and also for your post ride comments and suggestions.
Sure sounds like a Sunday or Friday ride discussion.

So to complete the comments....we could have had 2 groups of 5 from the start. As far as I know no one was dropped. Lindsey, Mike L., Janice, John D and I where going to turn back at some point. And yes it was a touch fast, 26km/hr? going out on a Gravel Trail. " but it is a Gravel Grinder"

Mark on your calender now ---SUNDAY OCTOBER 26, LEAVE STARBUCKS, DRIVE THRU, x from Mayfair Mall at 7:15.
This could be an Epic Stevie Rooks type ride ( no need to bring a Hammock or Sleeping Back.)
Approximately 120 to 140 km.We plan to go to Leechtown then around the water shed on logging roads to Shawnigan for coffee or Lunch and back via Mill bay ferry or Malahat.
We plan to be back before dark, but please bring front and back lights just in case...Also a GPS if you have one.

Of course you can also do 110km,Leach Town or turn in Metchosin for 80km.

If necessary we will have 2 groups or slow down as one.

see you on the GRAVEL,

cheers, Paul C.

I went on a recon ride today to check out the route from Sooke to Shawnigan...outside of the Watershed.
It started with 35kms to Young Lk Rd (off Otter Point). I got a car ride for that part :) Then I was met with an incredibly steep, long, loose climb along Butler Main. After that it was normal gravol roads for the bulk of it. Loose. Bumpy.
There is a long down hill to the Koksila Park. My hands still hurt from sqeezing the brakes so long on that one. It took me 4.5hrs to go Sooke to South Shawnigan. Then I had a painful climb up to the Malahat, and downhill to home.
The full loop would be 150km. Unless you can get dropped off by your wife out at Sooke there. That really helped me.

I'm in for attempting this one again Oct 26.
