Death in the family/Wanted--Cross/Winter bike

Memorial services for my orange Kona Jake The Snake will be held shortly (premature demise due to cracked frame). I'm thinking a quasi-Viking burial (set it on fire and point it down Ash Hill) might be appropriate.
In the meantime, cross season is upon us and I don't have a bike. If anyone's looking to upgrade or clear garage space (Dave Spiers?), pm me.
I'm 6'1". If I end up spending over $1500 I'll be in big big trouble at home.

Get yourself down to Broad Street Bikes.
They have a few Focus Mares cross bikes in the sale.
I think they have a large for $1250

last time I had a cracked frame, I took it back to the bike shop where I got it - 8 years after - and they said "No problem. Most bike companies will replace a cracked frame for free" I had wiped out hard and snapped a back stay. Sure enough, Rocky Mountain sent a new frame and the guys charged me about $100 to switch over my parts.
A new Focus would be sweet though. I was just in there looking at them. Shawn is riding one of the demos and loves it!

If the Focus doesn't take your fancy, there is a 61cm Kona Jake at Russ Hays for $1100.

I have a friend who had a similar issue (assuming it is an aluminium frame)
He had it repaired by Dave at Gas Gas Pacific (
gasgaspacific@telus.net) in Metchosin.
Cost about $50 which would definitely keep you out of trouble at home.

Thanks all, for the advice. It wasn't covered under warranty, as it turns out. I'm going to look into the welding option, though. I like the idea of a Frankenbike.

I second the Dave Fair in Metchosin suggestion. He fixed a couple frames for me: split headthbe and broken dropout. Also recommended by Fairfield bikes and other shops in town.

IT'S BAAAAACK!!! The orange bike lives to ride another day.
Dave Fair in Metchosin was a great call. He's super nice, charged me so little I felt guilty, and entertained me with a tour of the Victoria Motorcycle Club property and his Gas Gas trials bike shop (which abuts the VMC property). The folks at Russ Hays looked at the weld and said, "Yep, that guy obviously knows what he's doing."
