Everesting

This seems like a suitable Tripleshot challenge. Who's with me?!
By my calculations it might work out to approximately 70 Observatories....

Is there a "Prairie-ing" alternative?

Read about this challenge a while back, http://cyclingtips.com.au/2012/05/mt-everest-in-a-day/. If you read down further he completes a 11k climb ride in under 23hrs, completely nuts. Had an idea about 10 laps of the Mt Washington climb. About 350km (only 175 uphill) and 9850m/33,316ft total climbing elevation.

I guess the observatory would be a little more realistic but it looks like closer to 80 laps/348km total for the 111m climbed per lap, http://www.mapmyride.com/ca/victoria-br ... -269807719.

Could be a killer season closer in late September before the weather starts to turn for the worse. I'm free for the last three Saturdays of that month hint, hint.

Pretty funny Barton. Just did the math and to make the last ferry out of Port Angeles during the summer months you would have to average a bit more than 38.5 km/hr.

the first climb of goldstream heights would be perfect for this
http://www.strava.com/segments/642935
1.3km, 121m, + big wide open road with good pavement and almost no traffic to descend on, would cut the total saddle time down considerably, just need to make sure you have the right gearing as it's 9% average.

I'd be down with doing it
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

How about Sept 13th or 20th for the ride date depending on the weather? Inbetween I turn the big 35 and want to have a killer ride to cap my first real riding season since 2009.

Could do Haleakala 3 times. Probably about 15 hours. Over 30,000 feet and only about 120 km of riding I think.

Dave Spiers has done it twice in a day, so how hard can it be.

55km each way for 9899ft elevation gain, http://app.strava.com/segments/haleakala-climb-614610. Three up/down would total 330km/29700 ft. That would be a long day especially with all the crazy weather and lack of oxygen at 10km elevation.

Oh yah, you have to ride down. Ha Ha... wasn't really thinking that one through. Duh.

Yah, I've done it twice, and the oxygen levels got to me around 7000 feet. Just a dull headache. Not really any worse at 10,000 feet. The other thing that wouldn't work well is daylight. Gets dark early. Oh well, fun to think about these climbs.

Goldstream Heights sounds cool, if you can handle the grade for that long. Not good for those of us who are mass challenged

With that in mind I was thinking of running a 11-32t cassette. Even then with nearly 100km at 9% could be in for an ugly riding experience. It would be equivalent to 5-6 major tour climbs.
