HURRICANE RIDGE, AUGUST 17

Our next big full-on club event is the assault of Hurricane Ridge on Sunday Aug 17. Again this year TSC is providing funding for the first 40 riders (CLUB Members, any and all ages!) to register. Total cost of the ferry for passenger and bike and the entrance fee to the park is $53. We are asking CLUB members to pay $28. TSC will pick up the balance.

We are also asking all club members to register on our "store":

http://bikehart.com/cart/index.php?main ... ucts_id=53

Non club members are very welcome but they will have to take care of their own ticket at the ferry and at the park entrance. We are going to ask the park people if we can have one person at the gate to pay for all Club Members so we can just roll right on thru and up the hill! This worked very well last year.

We will have a support vehicle, my Escape. I'll have a bike rack on the back just in case! The vehicle can handle 4 bikes, 3 on the rack and one in the back, and up to 4 passengers. The vehicle will be riding up and down the climb, carrying water, gatorade powder, bananas, oranges, spare tubes, pump. Anything else? Oh ya, people's extra clothing for the ride down. It can be chilly even on a warm day!

Registration closes on August 15 at 6 PM. We will take a head count at that time. I will buy all tickets and will be at the ferry terminal at 5:30 AM to hand them out return tickets for passenger and bike to those that have registered thru our store. The boat leaves at 6:10 AM.

I really hope you can join in this great ride. If you have ridden the Ridge before you know how much fun it is. If you have not ridden this wonderful climb before, come see what you have been missing!

Your Exec!!

In the interests of planning and sharing information, can those who will be doing this ride please add their names to the list below? Since registration is through our online store, there is no easy way for people to know who else is coming.

Alas, I will be in Quebec that week...

Thanks,
John D

Bring a jacket for the ride down! It gets pretty cool in the shade at +60K/Hr!

Barbara: just keep pedalling! The steeper bit is the first climb between the entrance to the park (visitor center) and the toll booth/gatehouse (about 9 km). The subsequent 19-ish km to the parking lot at the top are a wee bit gentler.

This one fact—considerately pointed out by Dave Spiers on my first attempt—helped me with the mental challenge of riding uphill almost non-stop for over two hours.

Speaking of not-thinking-about-one's-legs, a ride partner who can engagingly converse on a variety of topics is very helpful.

Have fun!

Thanks to Barton for organizing this ride. We were blessed with terrific weather with spectacular views at the summit  . We had some first timers on this ride who had a blast. Thanks also to Jac for driving the gear to the top and being on hand if needed.posting.php?mode=reply&f=18&t=5208#
