Re: WD-40
Works great as a penetrating agent but can leave a slight residue that will offset the effectiveness of a good after treatment lube. Always had to use an extra degreaser to remove everything. WD is adequate for reviving an old stiff chain if soaked over night but with all the good enviro chain cleaning products available today there is no real reason to use it especially with the resulting fumes. I was a former shop tech years ago and almost never used it unless working on a buddies bike who had limited budget and couldn't afford to just replace with a new part.
