There's a open house this Saturday to discuss CRD plans for bike paths along Dallas. https://www.crd.bc.ca/seaterra-program/ ... -community

I think this interests Tripleshot, because such a path is really not suitable for our kind of cycling. It will have leisure and casual cyclists. Though the plan does not appear to reduce the road surface, any loss of space on the road means less room for cycling there. The info published so far make no mention of cycling on the road. And I can imagine that a bike path might be argued by some as a reason not to put bike lanes on Dallas, or otherwise accommodate commuting and exercising cyclists.
I think bike lanes would improve parts of Dallas: whether helping nervous drivers to see they can pass cyclists, or alerting drivers pulling out of parking that cyclists use the road. In particular, coming out of Beacon hill park onto Dallas, though the road is wide, drivers often hesitate when they see us come out of the park. A lane would make it clear there is room for them, and us, to continue.

Also, any bike use planning for Beacon Hill park should address the on-street parking where Dallas turns onto Douglas, and Douglas turns onto circle drive. In both places parkers regularly open car doors into the path of bikes. There is also a Victoria Parks process looking at the petting zoo parking lot. I think both the on street parallel parking on the circle, and the right angle parking by the petting zoo should be addressed by that. The parking lot is never full, while drivers use the on-street, then pull out in front of bikes without looking.
