New Year off to a great start (sort of)

All before noon today I managed to meet four of my New Year's Resolutions:
1. Ride more with my buddies. Four of us were out this morning. Check.
2. Be more involved with community pest control. See photo. Check.
3. Be more outrageous. I went swimming off Ross Bay with people dressed like Vikings (Polar Bear Swim). Check.
4. Get 'back' into poetry. See below. Check.

Bambi's Demise
The roads are all quiet, first day of the year,
No one is about, except for the deer.
Coexistence is perilous for Bambi and Blokes*
And nobody wins when she meets with our spokes.

*riding with two Englishmen (Dave Spiers and Big Neal), this word captures the Englishness of our conversation.

Hi Alan;

For the record, rumour has it that Spiers is actually a true-blue Canuck who just happens to have an unfortunate speech impediment. Being from Newfoundland, I understand and share that painful burden (especially after Pint #3).

Nice job on Bambi, eh? Perhaps Oak Bay could hire us to cruise around silently at night (wearing TSC's soon-to-be-debuted kevlar "Stealth Kit") as part of their "Deer Neutralization Policy". Please let them know that we're always looking for sponsors.

J.

What a productive morning, Alan!

Something tells me Dave Shishkoff wasn't behind that camera.

It was the 'other' Dave. Dave Spiers. The guy with the peach inspediment.
It was his idea to stop and grab a Bambi photo-op.
I'm awaiting hate-mail from Shishkoff and other assorted vegans who I have inevitably added to the (growing) list of people who dislike me. So I poetize... about

"Oak Bay's Beautiful Edible Rats"
by Alan Cassels

Delicious long lashes and eyes creamy brown,
the deer roam freely invading our town.
While vegans on podiums arouse with a sermon,
forget that poor Bambi and her kin are but vermin.
A deer hunter they'll say is a mean vigilante,
but they've never tried Bambi with a vintage Chianti.

Brilliant, Alan! Although you're a far better poet than actor - you who tries with little success to suppress a grin while snuggling up to Bambi's mortal remains...

I think this is a candidate for two awards:

- best post of the year, and

- best post of the year, posted earliest in the year (kind of like a New Year's baby contest)

Bike helmet on the deer might have amped up the LQ (laugh quotient)- that and a TT bike between it's legs.

Cheers,
Chris
