Le tour de Disaster....

This sounds worthwhile, and interesting, maybe a little bit weird. But certainly of appeal to those who would want to use their bikes as a way to help beef up Victoria's emergency preparedness.
But carrying 12 litres of water? Dude, I did the Whistler Grandfondo on one and a half bottles--what's a guy to do with 12 litres of water? Being more of a 'causing disasters' than a 'responding to disasters' type, I'm probably not the demographic they're looking for but I bet some of you think the idea is sound and will. Great idea, with an important objective. But this has to be one of the stranger observations on the City of Victoria website:
The Tour de Disaster is not a race. It is a rally with a variety of tasks that must be completed within the event time frame. ...

The points system has been designed to encourage all cyclists to participate, including those with large backpacks, pannier bags, carriers, trailers, cargo bikes, etc. It recognizes that disasters are not competitions...
(They're clearly ignoring the macroeconomic dynamics of disaster capitalism!)

I hesitate to get involved, but I think the disaster in Calgary has shown that, even in what is viewed by many Canadians as the city that is the pinnacle of capitalism and money in the country, compassion and community spirit can rule the day. Viva Calgary! Que viva! Que viva la comunidad! Que viva!!

I also think this rally sounds very cool. Not one to done on a road bike, but I like the idea. Darn it, we will be out of town. But Go For It team tripleshot. Maybe those who did the 100 times around beacon hill would be up for this.

I will join you next year.
Hay siempre maƱana.
