TCT = Two (2) CRASH Tuesday

OK Bs of this morning …. What did we learn today?

1. When it rains hard ( after not raining much this month) and is still wet on the road traction is not as good.
2. When we approach Cedar Hill X Rd (CHXR)and Cadboro Bay Rd (CBR)there should be no hurry. No positioning needed.
3. We need to remember that the CHXR – CBR intersection is off camber and there is paint.
4. We can all look for south bound traffic on Cadboro Bay road, from Cedar Hill

What might we do differently?

1. Be more cautious for the entire ride.
2. Slow down, no one is going to pass you here, there is no sprint until three corners from here. This is a part of the ride where you can Chill. Listen to the old guy behind you who said WATCH YOUR SPEED!
3. Where are you on the CHXR and where will you be when entering CBR? Get left on the turning lane off CHXR and then move right near the shoulder of CBR . This approach reduces your angle of turn onto the CBR and your path across the paint.
4. Before the ramp from CHXR to CBR ***L O O K**** for vehicles cresting from the North ( coming up CBR hill ) We can usually see them before they see us. Go back to what we said in 2 above
S L O W D O W N ! The old guy at third wheel should not be the one that calls CAR! Did none of the first 4 riders look before the intersection?

All the above in the spirit of keeping my vintage 3shot kit in whole not hole filled condition. Sippi’n another espresso - Norman

Wise comments especially on a rainy morning ride but not sure how to slow the sprint entering CHXR as the pace jumps a 100m before there and it's a flat out sprint afterwards.
(The best bet is to follow my lead and pull the pillow over your head when the rain is coming down hard at 5:30am. jk to all the truely dedicated...)
Might be best advice to institute a declared "rain day" and have the sprints end prior to getting to CHXR.

I resemble that remark Norm, except mine occurred turning on to CHXR. I must have been too aggressive cornering and lost an edge, I thought I slowed down sufficiently....

Thanks to everyone who picked me up and fixed my bike. Sorry Marcus for taking you out!

Thanks for posting Norm. I don't think it would hurt if we rolled all stop signs on our group rides at a somewhat slower rate of speed. I don't know if I was the old guy you referred to who called car but I was near the front and called slowing when I heard the truck coming up the hill. Ironically, it was the slowing that caused Mike to lock up his brakes and go down. No worries about the take down Steve. Watching you was my downfall as I went where I was looking right into your bike. I now have a nice imprint bruise of a Marinoni top tube on my hip as a souvenir.

Didn't see this incident but often see riders hugging the inside of the approach to corners, then getting thrown wide in the exit into oncoming cars (Lansdowne and Henderson) , or wide into merging traffic like Norm describes at chxr and cbr.

I agree with Norm, use the width of the road on the approach to corners. It might feel driver-provoking to move out to the yellow line, (always shoulder check first) but its way safer. Even Henderson onto chxr. There's no reason we can't go onto chxr in the curb lane, well clear of merging traffic, if we line up wide before the corner. Chxr is at least three cars wide east of Henderson.

I'd also argue the line at chxr and cbr is actually two parts; one before the crosswalk, straighten up so you're not leaned over so far on the paint, then finish the turn right after the cross walk.
