Days Off

Do you feel like crap on the first ride back after a day off? It sucks, eh? I had that happen today. No fun. That's why the pro's do not take days off during the grand tours. They'll do 2-3 hours on the rest days including some easy climbing to make sure they don't tighten up and get all out of whack. They use other methods of preparation as well, but that's none of our concern. They have nothing to hide. I used to take Monday off and then show up to a Tripleshot Tuesday ride all completely full of piss & vinegar, and then quit the 'A' group in despair after a lap-and-a-half of the box. Then Wednesday I'd feel great and then do the IRC Thursday night ride and Friday Tripleshot ride back-to-back and it was all good. My former eastern bloc coach, Dieter, would always stress, never, ever take a day off. Ever. Even if all you did was a four hour session on the rollers, facing the wall, preferably eyes closed, visualizing every meter of the last 100 miles of Amstel Gold, that was better than nothing. It was enough to ensure good sensations while making the following day's trainings. I miss his daily wisdom.

shameful......and to top it off, I see you ran yesterday. I hope you were being chased.

Your 20 hour week last week was tolerable, your 2 days off was not. Get it together.

I am filled with shame. There were two days off and another run last week, too, and only 16 hours completed on the bike. At least the metrics and sensations on today's ride indicated continued improvement, albeit at an inevitably reduced trajectory. Hopefully I can improve my dedication or it will all be for naught. :(

Good grief, there will be three days off the bike this week! I despair!

Grunter von Agony is going to kick my sorry backside when he finds out how much I've slacked off this week... moving house is no excuse.

If I don't get back on the wagon in a hurry, there will be no Chamois Dances for me this summer.

Sylvan ... Do Not run! It is evil. Running is for joggers who can not fix a flat. Just do races like Mike Lawless and I do , but do not do any run training. It is bad for you ....just ride 6 or 7 times a week and you will all be fine...( and ready for Mark Ford's 200km March 3!)

Peh. Last time I saw Simon Pearson in a bike race, he ran the whole damned thing.
