I absolutely loved 'The Rules' link http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/ Anyone reading this who hasnt glanced over the 91 'rules' on this link should do so today!

Thanks for that Sylvan

My question - What is with shaving the legs? (sorry ladies but Im talking to the men here :) ) I want to fit in, but I'm gonna need a pretty good answer to this before I take a razor to my lower limbs. It may be a liberating experience I can imagine, but what do I tell my peeps?

If you want to fit in with the cyclists who shave their legs, then ....

I value fitting in with my dear wife more than my cycle mates! I have been told spandex is fine, the line is drawn at leg shaving!

Personally, shaving my face every day or two is a pain. I'd rather not add the legs to this!

The pragmatic rationalization is that road rash cleans easier and heals faster on a clean-shaven leg versus one matted with hair. The real reason, though, is vanity. Muscle tone is far more apparent on legs shaved silky smooth.

Of course, real men wax.

Come on guys, the real reason we shave is too look totally PRO( AS MOST OF US 40 TO 70 YEAR OLDS NEVER WILL BE PRO!)
And we need to get ready for the annual photo shot for 'The MEN of Tripleshot" calendar....
thats why.

I found it a lot easier to apply sunscreen sans hair (and I use a lot less of it  ).

I've also heard that massage is not as painful since there is no hair to pull on. Anyone have any experience in that area?

The answer is in the question
You shave because it's rule #33.

It's covered in:
Rule #3 // Guide the uninitiated.
No matter how good you think your reason is to knowingly breach The Rules, it is never good enough

Oh the shame of knowingly breaching the rules!!!
However, I fear my wife's reaction to shaved legs more than I shame!

Bad enough that you cower and hide from #33, but to flagrantly disregard Rule #11 as well? Double shame.

My wife prefers shaved legs.

When people ask you about your shaved legs, tell them the line about crashing, road-rash, massage, etc, but in reality, it's about the feeling of clean sheets, or jeans against the freshly shaved skin. And If you ask me about this in public, I will deny it.

Also, real men use lasers.

On themselves.

And sharks use lasers. On their heads. And can you imagine a shark with hairy legs?! I can, and although hairy legs (especially combined with a head-mounted laser) could turn a shark into a fearsome and intimidating land predator, it would be awkward and slow in its natural aquatic environment, and would, more to the point, have a tough time holding the handlebars of a bicycle.

Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yah, that's why cyclists really shave their legs.
